“Fantastic holiday for horse riding”
Reviewed 23 June 2014

Just spent a week in Acorn Cottage at Newbiggin Hall. As all the other reviews say, the accomodation was fantastic and the cottage was very well equiped, especially in the kitchen. On the couple of nights that we stayed in and cooked, everything we needed was there, even down to pototo masher, pots, pans, cooking dishes etc. I can not fault the place.
It was spotlessly clean and the scenery from out of both the front and back windows was stunning.
I booked the cottage for a week and for the first 3 days, I was there with two friends and our horses. The paddocks were right outside our front door and we had the option of stabling as well. There was ample parking for our horse box and trailer. It is a brilliant set up and base for riding holiday. As soon as we got there, the horses were so chilled. The riding was fantstic. It was all on bridleways or very quiet country lanes. You can turn east or west out of the complex, straight onto bridleways. One day we rode to Sandsend, along the beach to Whitby and then back to the cottage at Aislaby.
Tina and Robin, the owners were lovely, very accomodating and with Tina having horses herself, they were very helpful and knowledgable.
I would recommend Newbiggin Hall to anybody, be them equestrrian or not.

Room Tip: I had a look at all 4 cottaes and they were all equally as good and well set out

Just returned from a lovely week in Park Lane cottage and was delighted with both the accommodation and location. The cottage is stylish, well furnished and very well looked after. The surroundings are peaceful and so beautiful with amazing views from every window. I would agree with others that Newbiggin Hall is truly dog friendly - the enlosed garden is a real bonus for relaxing outside and letting the dog loose. It's worth the drive down the long lanes to stay in such a fabulous setting but near enough to everything that Whitby and the surrounding area offers. Enjoyed every minute and wouldn't hesitate to return.

We have just spent a week in The Granary cottage at Newbiggin Hall. This just sleeps 2 but was a lot bigger than many we have stayed in which sleep 4 people. Everything was wonderfully clean and fresh and it was obvious that a lot of thought had gone into the conversions which I thought were very recent but apparently they were done 9 years ago. The owners obviously pay a lot of attention to the upkeep of these lovely cottages. The weather was not very good but we had a lovely week despite that and look forward to returning soon. Dogs are certainly welcome here unlike some cottages where they are just tollerated and have to be kept on a lead all the time.

It is a idyllic setting, and an area that we know very well. The cottage was very warm and cosy but lacked on equipment for those wanting to cook a reasonable meal. Also we paid £3 per head for towels, they were terrible quality and not what we would have expected from such a luxury establishment. None of his spoilt our holiday but may not encourage us to return.

Room Tip: take your own towels and cheese grater!

We booked a spur of the moment last minute break and certainly came up trumps.
Lovely big rooms, great views, quite and very very relaxing.
Really dog friendly, individually enclosed gardens and great walks.

Emma, Paul & Charlie dog.

The reviews went a long way to selling us on Newbiggin Hall, and the 3 bedroom Cedar cottage was ideal as we were looking to take with us my elderly mother-in-law, who isn't too mobile. You have to bear in mind that prices here are very reasonable even in peak periods, so it was great to find all bedrooms with ensuites, and the walk-in shower in the downstairs bedroom was brilliant for Mum.
You can sit outside front and back with great views either side, and on a sunny afternoon such as when we arrived, that was the very first thing we did, with huge anticipation. Of course the farm is off the beaten track, but that is how you get all the grouse, pheasants, deer almost on your doorstep - we didn't dare let our dog off the lead all week, though the walks were lovely.
The cottage itself was very comfortable, with everything we needed for our stay. It's as well to remember that mobile reception can be patchy, so best to warn potential callers, and no internet connection took a bit of getting used to, but I did say it was peaceful.
You are between the small villages of Aislaby and Egton, each of which has a pub/restaurant. We can certainly recommend a visit to the Wheatsheaf in Egton which was advised to us by the couple next door who have been coming to Newbiggin Hall for 10 years.
