My partner and I went to Whitby for an overnight stay at short notice so we were pushed for time looking for accommodation. After googling Kika's Place we thought at the price of £45 per room it was a good price. We actually walked past it due to it being a 'front door' joined onto a shop! we were shown the en-suite room and then left to our own devices. The room was so clutted with junk I couldnt believe that it would actually be rented out in that state. It was totally filthy, with meldew all around the shower and bathroom, the wall paper and paint were flaking off the walls and ceiling. It incredibly old fashioned. it was that dirty I wouldnt even get a drink of water from the tap. I am actually astounded at some of the reviews on here as we must have been staying in a completely different place! The lady herself was very friendly, welcoming and pleasant, But it has to be the worst place for cleanliness and clutter I have ever stayed at and would never stay there again if it was free!!

Room Tip: Yes I have one tip only, dont stay there full stop!!

Me and my husband stayed at Kika's place and were both' over the moon' with the accomodation. We were made to feel welcome straight away. Its ideal location meant all we had to do was step out of the front door and we were straight on the cobbles in the town centre. The room was very clean, the bedding and towels immaculate. The bed was very comfortable and was huge!! The shared bathroom had a temporary floor due to the upgrades, but was clean and warm and the shower was lovely and hot. This is ideal for people who want simple accomadation with no frills or ribbons. Kika's is undergoing upgrading but this didn't interfere with our short break at all. We are definately coming back again.

We have stayed at Kika's seven or eight times now both as a couple & as a family; with two young children. We love the place! perfect location & a great no fuss approach to hospitality - Kika's offers various room sizes over several floors (some are now en-suite too!!! in an original 'Whitby abode on the cobbles'. No breakfast, but there's plenty of biscuits! plus there's plenty choice locally for breakfast/fish & chips anyway. Great value for money, helpful, clean & friendly :-)

Defiantly booking again soon...

Room Tip: Ask about the new en-suites!

The first thing we noticed was that the host was very friendly and welcoming. The guest house had a relaxed feel about it with lots of different artefacts from around the world to see and a slightly 'hippy' feel to it. Something we actually quite liked!
The rooms weren't perfect, more akin to a hostel type bedroom than a hotel. Could definitely do with a bit of a makeover, especially if they are to continue to charge £50 a night, a price more associated with a better standard of decor/furnishings. The bedding was clean and fresh and the shared bathroom felt more like a family bathroom and could also have done with a bit of an update.
Our stay wasn't a bad experience, but it probably helped that we are both people that have been abroad to varying different countries and have been used to staying in a variety of different standards of accomodation.
If it's a central location with a friendly host you are looking for, then this is the place. If you are wanting plush pillows, room service and a fry up in the morning I'd certainly look elsewhere and probably for not much more money!

we stayed 2 nights in a family room, great location and cheap (£50 per night) but thats the only good part. room was old and tatty, only one plug socket n room and this was very loose on wall i didnt dare use it, doubt it would pass safty checks and the fire alarm looked like it had not been checked in a long time, stains on bed and lamp, strage sick like stain under one bed and left over goodie bag under our bed,no storige only one cubard that was full to the top with clutter, the shared bathroom had a broken lock so we had to keep one foot on the door whilst on the loo and we couldnt have a shower incase another guest decided to come in the bathroom, the cubard in bathroom kept poping open to reveal lots of paint pots,varnish,wd40 ect falling out and us having to stack them back up and hoping it would stay shut long enough for use to escape.only 3 towels for 4 of use for the 2 nights.ok but only if you are desprate
