Description: Beckett's is a small, family-run, dog-friendly coffee shop off the beaten track in lovely Skinner Street. We serve a small but ever-changing menu made from local ingredients where possible including delicious soups and 'beckanini' - which are large, soft and not gum-cloggingly dry. Our cakes are all sticky and home-made using real butter and free-range eggs (the rhubarb and custard cake is a favourite) and new this year are home-made cookies. The coffee is delicious and all Fairtrade.

Great little coffee shop that is very dog friendly .great staff and the cakes that are baked on site are probably the best anywhere and always changing the chocolate amaretto was just to die for a must for any visit to whitby

We were looking for somewhere that accepted dogs, and they were very accommodating, especially on such a rainy day. As soon as a better table opened up, they asked if we would like to move to the more comfortable table, as our dog was parked right in the middle of the traffic going in and out.

Food was really good, and the staff couldn't have been nicer.

What an excellent place. I'd read of Beckett's in a list of dog friendly places but in the end I came upon it by accident. Very friendly staff and the food was good (I had a beckinini ie panini). Plus a water bowl and treat for my dog.

Later in the day I ate in a pub that advertised a "dog friendly area" and the contrast was very marked. In Beckett's 5 tables were occupied while we were there and 3 of these had a dog. Everyone was welcome and the dogs especially so. Whereas, the pub banished dogs and owners to an outer room that was away from the bar and the other customers. Except that there were only a couple of other customers !

If you travel to Whitby with a dog and fancy something to eat then this is an excellent choice. Who knows, if enough dog owners make the trip to Beckett's then other establishments will realise what they are missing from the dog pound.

Ahhh Beckett’s… where to begin?? This place is just wonderful all over. My boyfriend and I came up from the Midlands and visited Whitby over the Easter long weekend to enjoy some cycling and sightseeing. We were looking to sit down for a cup of tea somewhere and stumbled upon this lovely intimate cafe - and quickly fell in love with the place. It’s a family run café – you’ll find the mother, son and daughter in there every day and they’re a very friendly and cheerful bunch who clearly love what they do and always greet you with a smile. The atmosphere is nice and homely – the walls are lined with book shelves to make you feel like you ‘re in someone’s living room – you’re more than welcome to grab any book you like to enjoy while you eat or drink (books are also available for sale, including ones by local authors). The sweet, tantalising smell of cake being freshly baked in the kitchen will hit you the moment you walk in – and not even the most health conscious of you would be able to resist trying one of their super generous slices (I certainly couldn’t!) They definitely don’t cut any corners with their recipes – the cakes are wonderfully moist, very addictive, and you’ll find different ones to try each day. They also have a fantastic selection of teas and coffees – after stopping for a drink at Beckett’s, you’ll never be satisfied by a Costa or Starbucks again! This place is also great for lunch – fresh paninis, soups and other yummy meals on their daily specials board. It’s always bustling with visitors, both locals and from further afield. Dogs are welcome too! We ended up coming back there every day to stuff our faces with their incredible cakes and to go through their extensive collection of loose leaf teas. We would certainly be regulars if we lived anywhere nearby. To summarize: you won’t be disappointed.
