I have been visiting Whitby for the last 20 years but had not discovered Sneaton Castle until this weekend, when I came across it whilst making a last minute booking. I'm so glad I booked there. From the moment I turned into the driveway I was impressed by the majestic grounds and lovely buildings. The gardens are beautifully kept and the new buildings have been designed in keeping with the old parts.

Our room was in St Francis and was warm, spotlessly clean, spacious and very comfortable. We had a view across the rear gardens to the moors, which was lovely. There is plenty of parking, too. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful.

Breakfast was served in the main refectory and there was plenty of choice.

I would say this would be a perfect spot for walkers. It is about a mile from the centre of Whitby but is in a great location for getting around the local area. It's far enough away to not be woken up by seagulls first thing in the morning, too.

Room Tip: The room we had was fully adapted for disabled use and was on the ground floor.

The bonus of staying here was the fact that we were able to worship with the nuns in the adjacent convent. The weekend was very much enjoyed as a result.
The accommodation was clean and spacious, the staff helpful and welcoming. Breakfast offered a good selection but we chose to eat in the town during the evenings. We intend to return and would not stay anywhere else in Whitby!

There were 20 of us, some in the single rooms with shared facilities, and others sharing in the en-suite rooms. All the rooms were clean and comfortable. The facilities were great, good food, and above all incredibly helpful and friendly staff.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for the en-suite rooms, they are well worth it.

Stayed here on a course and was very surprised at how beautiful this place is. I have visited the area many times and not sure how or why I have not seen this place before. Fabulous well kept gardens with pet donkey. walks from the centre and marked trails. The rooms are very well equipped and comfortable. The food was fine and staff friendly. There is a small bar but cosy . There is a chapel and residential nuns who often walk in the grounds .They enjoy chatting and are very interesting to talk to.
I will be booking a room soon and hope to enjoy a few days relaxing in this wonderful setting.
West cliff in Whitby is not very far and I am hoping to use this accommodation for future breaks nr Whitby.
Good offer at present £99 per person B/B three nights.

Room Tip: Remember it is a centre so school groups may be present .Ask for a room in the house if possible.

What a lovely place ... Right on the edge of Whitby, with lovely gardens and a Jubilee walk through part of the land and farm land.

Breakfast brilliant

En suite in St Francis .. A separate building .. Walls a bit thin, but very clean, well appointed etc.

Tremendously good value.

We stayed here as part of a big group in May 2013. The en suite room was large and had all mod cons. I was full board and all the meals were absolutely delicious. The staff were always warm, friendly and welcoming. Thinking of booking another trip soon.

Beautiful location. Lovely grounds. Fantastic food and great staff.
HOWEVER, my room was absolutely tiny - the smallest room I've ever been given anywhere.
The worst thing was that the walls seemed to be just constructed of thin plasterboard. Every time someone went to the loo in the night, I could hear everything. The noise of people using the bathroom didn't settle down till after 1 on my corridor then at 5, someone went again and woke me and at 6.30 someone started running a bath and I was woken again. The second night was no better. I'm not normally a light sleeper and I'd taken antihistamines to try and help me sleep but to no avail.
I really feel that Sneaton needs to get an acoustic engineer in and sort out some kind of insulation for their walls.
I think there'd been glass at some point - windows along the top of the wall onto the corridor - in my room and this appeared to just have been replaced with painted hardboard which really isn't satisfactory.
I would not stay here again.

Thank you for your kind comments about the staff and food. This weekend was very busy with a conference which I hope you enjoyed. All rooms were booked out in the main house, which is four star hostel accommodation so you did possibly get the smallest room. The hostel accommodation used to be a girls boarding school so we do have quite a few small single bedrooms. Unfortunately, all our four star ensuite guest accommodation in St Francis House had been booked out by another group.
