“Superb guest-house. Best in Whitby !”
Reviewed 11 June 2013

What can I say about Wentworth House ? Caroline and Robin are the perfect hosts - nothing is ever too much trouble for them and their welcome is always warm. The information-board is always well-stocked with information leaflets and maps, their rooms are clean and spacious and the breakfasts are of the highest quality. [Our teenage daughter says the kippers are well good !]

We would never dream of staying anywhere else when we come to Whitby....book now, you will not be disappointed !

Room Tip: All the rooms we have stayed in have been of the same high quality.

Relaxed and welcoming

Me and my partner and our lovely little Barney (our dog) went to stay at this hotel and was impressed. Lovely homely feel, very clean, warm and quiet. Nice location and well cooked breakfast. If I had one gripe, I’d have to say maybe a little over priced for such facilities but needless to say we did enjoy our visit. The room was big and tasteful with tea making bits etc

We struggled with parking a little too but again just a small issue

would visit again :)

We've stayed here previously and wouldn't dream of going anywhere else in Whitby. The room was extremely clean and comfortable and nothing was too much trouble for Caroline and Robin (owners). They were very flexible with our booking and we opted to stay an extra night at a very reasonable rate. Breakfast was great, plenty to eat and all cooked to perfection. Robin chatted with us all and gave recommendations on where to go and what events were being held locally and we were made to feel very welcome. We'll definitely stay again! Highly recommended!

My wife and I are on our honeymoon tour of England and stopped at the Wentworth in Whitby for one night. We were pleased to find somewhere that would be flexible to only book for one night as many places have a minimum two or three night stay, especially on weekends (and half term!) Caroline called us in advance to let us know they'd had a leak in their loft which meant the double bedroom we were booked into was unusable and we'd been moved to a twin room downstairs. Not a problem but not the honeymoon break we'd originally planned! :-)

The room itself was nicely decorated and the beds comfortable. There was an ensuite shower and toilet with a separate sink in the main bedroom (I can't help but think of how many people have touched that light pull switch and door handle with unwashed hands before returning to the bedroom to clean up). The shower room was small but we didn't use the shower so can't comment on its quality. It was all very clean though.

There's free parking all around but none of it is reserved for the guest house (as far as I know) so we parked two streets away in the nearest space and wheeled our cases over.

I'm finding it hard to write a fair review as whilst there was nothing objectionable about our stay, it was just a bit quirky. Caroline and Robin were very attentive and wanted to help, were keen to make sure we were happy, but at times a bit full on - breakfast felt rushed with plates being whisked away seconds after we'd finished (presumably because they wanted to help clear away and keep things clean). The full English on offer was fine, Robin asked often if everything was ok and if we wanted more toast etc - whilst generous, it felt like they were in panic mode and trying very hard to ensure guests were happy, to the detriment of the experience. The breakfast could benefit from some locally sourced farm goods, the flavour had an air of 'cheap' about it.

To caveat everything I've said above, it's clearly a family run business and they're working very hard to keep people happy and offer a nice place to stay. Perhaps we've been spoilt with other places we've stayed in with big wide screen TV's and commercially run hotels - this would suit a lot of people down to the ground, but it wasn't us.

The location is an easy ten minute stroll into town and we enjoyed being so close to the beach and all that Whitby had to offer. We loved our weekend and would come back to Whitby again to do some more exploring.

If the gentleman had mentioned it w their honeymoon we would have moved someone else to the twin room, we just want people to be happy!
We sanitise after every guest but have now put some hand wash in the en-suite, but we have never had any comments about this in nearly six years!
We tell every guest to come to the house to unload and we will help with both the luggage and the parking. We move our cars if necessary, to get parking for guests so that they can park nearby.
We are far from "quirky" but are modern clean and comfortable!
The person from Visit England, during an inspection, told us to remove finished plates as soon as possible and to give guests room to relax. There is no rush for people to finish their food. We use good quality produce and have had many positive comments about our breakfasts!
We are only two hundred yards from the shopping street and just five minutes from the harbour.

We stayed 3 nights at WGH in Whitby. The rooms were big, comfortable and clean; breakfast was superb every morning; the proprietors were extremely welcoming and accommodating and able to recommend several good places to visit and dine at. We had a great holiday and would certainly recommend this guest house.
