“Excellent value for money and good food”
Reviewed 13 August 2014

Second time we've been to this restaurant and gave found it very good on both occasions. Reasonably priced given the location and plenty of room for a pushchair! Staff are attentive and polite.

“great except for the waitress”
Reviewed 11 August 2014

We returned after a good meal from a previous years visit and once again the food was great, steak and hand cut cut chips, yum. Congrats to the chef. The decor is fun and food and drink good value, I also recommend the black shiraz. However we were let down by service, the waiter was fab but the waitress was inattentive and got simple tasks wrong, it's a small thing but it affected our visit.
Also can I make a request that after 5pm when you have table service and the candles are kite can the radio be turned off and a CD be put on, eg some soft jazz or vintage songs, it would greatly improve the atmosphere.

“Lovely Cake”
Reviewed 2 August 2014

Popped in for a drink with my daughter and we ended up getting seduced by the cake display. Sampled the Coffee and Walnut and the Rolo Cake. Very good. I had a lovely coffee and Jen a hazelnut chocolate. Reasonably priced, good service and a very pleasant environment to spend an hour with the papers and friends or family. Menu in general looked good and there were plenty of people eating.

“Good service”
Reviewed 25 July 2014

We shared a Heron platter with onion rings, chicken wings and strips, nachos, etc. Mostly, it was good - the chicken was good but the nachos had processed cheese on top. It would have been better with grated cheddar cheese.

Thanks for your review. Glad the service was good, and that you enjoyed the most of your food. But it most certainly is not processed cheese on top of our nachos . We use homemade cheese sauce made with cheddar cheese. We use homemade cheese sauce as it melts easier and covers the nachos without sticking them all together making them easier to share. Sorry if it wasn't to your liking. We hope it hasn't put you off and we hope you will return.

“Not worth the money ”
Reviewed 24 July 2014 via mobile

Food not bad - but certainly not worth what it costs. I paid £9.95 for a crab salad, in which the crab didn't appear to be fresh - not what I expect from somewhere in Whitby. Additionally, some serving staff seem a little lackadaisical. For an establishment that seems so quaint, they seem to care little about presentation and service.

Thanks for the review, but I will fight our corner by saying our crab is fresh from a local seafood shop. It maybe that your not used to mixed crab meat which is what we use as just to have white crab meat would push the price up. Sorry it wasn't to your liking.
I am sorry you didn't think the service was upto scratch, I will tell them all to smile a little harder.
