“Comfort food in cosy surroundings! Fantastic!”

Without a doubt my favourite place to eat in Whitby! Me and me friends visit every Tuesday for warm pie, warm atmosphere and a warm welcome..just what you need in winter! The pie meals really are a bargain at £4.99 and the food is so tasty that it is worth braving the elements, and walking over the old bridge, for! We continually recommend it to our friends and family and have a few pie converts already! If you visit this cosy, bolt hole( can you tell I work in an estate agents?) i promise you will end up going back time and time again. Love it!

“A hidden gem that must be found”
Reviewed 7 October 2010

A friend recommended the Humble Pie and Mash cafe and my partner and I weren't disappointed. It was simply the best pie EVER!!!!! The place is warm and welcoming with an open fire. It has old time music playing and is filled with artifacts dating back 200 years. There are a range of pie flavours for vegetarians and meat eaters, and they are crammed full to the top. It comes with delicious mash, peas and gravy. For pudding we had peach crumble and cream. One portion was plenty for two. Its not on route to anywhere but is just round the corner. Go across the swing bridge and instead of heading up the old street towards the abbey, turn right and you're there. For me it's like the Magpie Restaurant. You can't go to Whitby without visiting the Humble Pie and Mash. P.SWe took half a dozen home. You can cook them at home and they are suitable for home freezing!!!!!!

“Excellent food, beautiful surroundings, bargain prices”
Reviewed 7 October 2010

Gorgeous little pie shop in the centre of Whitby. Beautiful 1940s chitzy interior, wartime memorabilia and Dame Vera Lynn providing the atmosphere.
Simple dining concept. Pie. £4.99 for pie, mash, peas and gravy. A menu of tasty shortcrust pies on offer, my favourite so far is steak and stout, closely followed by creamy chicken and cider. Vegetarian friend always satified by the Roast Veg and Goats Cheese.
Fentimans traditional lemonade is always a must, and we always say we are going to try the delicious looking crumbles or jam roly polys for pudding, but we are always too full.
Top this off with the most wonderful friendly service, and this little gem has become a firm favourite for our girly 'Pie Tuesday' weekly sessions. Mmmmmmm...

“WOW - WHAT CAN I SAY - AWESOME CONCEPT AND EXCELLENT FOOD!!”
Reviewed 25 September 2010

Enjoyed two meals at The Humble Pie and Mash in 4 days. This restaurant is unique, authentic and serves exceptional food. The staff are so friendly and attentive. Initially picked the loction due to the venue allowing dogs. 'George' accompanied us on both nights and enjoyed his window seat. One of the best eateries in the town - fish and chips are not the be all and end all!! Will be back on our next visit!

“Bored with fish? Then try this!”
Reviewed 24 September 2010

Called in a few days ago about 6pm and found a table straight way. Didn't know this place existed until Brian at the B&B told me about it. Had the corned beef pie with peas and mash with lashings of gravy and a pot of tea.Would like to have had space for a jam roly poly but the ample portions filled me up. Lovely pies with melt in the mouth pastry and world war 2 songs playing in the background had a few 'old timers' humming along.
By the time we left 45 mins later, diners were queing at the door - a sure sign of good food! 2 hearty meals and 2 pots of tea and change out of £15. A yorkshire mans dream!
