We booked for a three day break the first night we decided to have the lobster thermidor which was advertised, and was told that the lobster was too expensive to buy, we then chose the surf and turf which was an extra £5. the steak was tough, the languostine was a large prawn and the scamp tails and prawns in butter were so tiny as to be non existent we were not offered boiled or chipped potates but were given chips and the seasonal vegetables turned out to be frozen peas.
If you order soup, you will get packet soup.
We were asked for our opinion of the meals and we asked why we were the only two in the dining room when the hotel was full.

This hotel looks like it has been refurbished, but we did have a couple of small issues, the hot water in the sink took about 10 min to heat up and the curtains in the room kept hardly any light out in the early morning. The mamagement was very receptive and helpful though and gave us a bottle of wine with our dinner which was nice. Overall it was quite comfortable and we paid £85 for a room overlooking the esplanade. It was about a 5 - 10 min walk into the quaint village of Whitby and had some takeaway places close by if you didnt want to eat out.

Room Tip: worth paying the extra for a room facing esplanade, nice view.

We stayed 3 nights over the Easter weekend with our Dog Mimi. The room was small but very clean, comfortable and decorated to a good standard. The hotel staff were friendly and very accommodating, we were made to feel very welcome including the dog. Breakfast was set up for us in the bar so that could eat with Mimi rather than leave her in the room. The cooked breakfast was one of the best I've ever tasted.
A very nice friendly hotel for a short break and well located for Whitby's attractions.

Stayed at the Seacliff for 2 nights over the weekend before Easter. Our room was clean and recently refurbished, and had a good view of the sea. Staff was friendly and helpful most of the time we were there. However on the Monday, our last day we were awoken by builders banging at 9.00a.m., yet nowhere on the website does it say the place is still under refurbishment. If you like a good shower, then be prepared for temperature changes in the water, and a weak flow of water. Breakfast was the usual fare, and the dining room was nothing special and smelt of bacon fat! Considering we arrived after 4.00p.m. in our fisrt day we didn't appreciate someone knocking on our door promptly at 10.00, to say check-out time was 10.00a.m.!! If they are so desperate then a polite reminder at the desk on your last day is a pleasant touch. By the time we left the place was crawling with builders! Think carefully about your stay here as your £90.00 gives you a sea view, but it's nothing special.

Why there are so many bad reviews about this place is a mystery to myself and family who spent the weekend here. We stayed in room 14 which had spectacular sea views, en suit shower room, the room was modernly decorated with all the faclitites you need for a weekend away, tea and coffee making facilities including biscuits. There was a hair dryer, dressing table, wardrobe with plenty of hangers and a very comfortable double bed.
My sister and her partner stayed in another sea view room on the lower floor which was just as lovely.
The breakfasts where great ... Ceral, fruits, yoghurt, and full English including a vegaterian option, also there was no issue at all with swapping hash browns etc and having different types of eggs nothing was too much trouble.
If I where to be picky I would also say it was a little noisey at night the Saturday night in particular, but we all go on and have a few drinks don't we?! The Sunday night was lovely and quite peaceful.
It is vaule for money and the people who I'm sure just like complaining for the sake of it, are expecting 5 star accommodation in a Yorkshire sea side town at a £90 a room not going to happen! I will be returning late in the year.

Stayed at this hotel for a short break In January. We had a seaview room on the 2nd floor (Room14)
It was very clean and comfortable and it was lovely to wake up in the morning to such a lovely view out of the window. Breakfasts were really nice. If you like your eggs poached the chef here certainly knows how to cook them properly. We also had an evening meal as we were a bit unsure what would be open so out of season. Again we had a lovely meal at a reasonable price. It is about a 15 minute walk into Whitby town but we enjoyed this. If you like walking turn left out of the hotel and walk to Sandsend. Further round the coast road there is a path at the far end of the car park which eventually takes you to Runswick. (Where you can get the bus back to Whitby and a well earned drink in the 'SamSmiths' Jolly Sailors pub)

Room Tip: Room 14 is a decent size room with a good size bathroom as seaview

Great place to stay for a family with teenagers. Originally booked for 2 nights but extended it for an extra night. Had lovely rooms, fabulous breakfast. Lovely evening meals. Owners and staff very helpful. Great fountains of knowledge on the history of Whitby and surrounding areas. Good location for an early morning walk.

Room Tip: Room 8 great for the kids, Room 17 lovely for adults
