David and Tania make you feel welcome from the moment you set foot inside their lovely hotel. The rooms are immaculate and comfortable, there is plenty of choice at breakfast including the local kippers (highly recommended). The hotel is situated with 10 minutes stroll of the centre of Whitby where there is an excellent choice of pubs and restaurants in the town. Will definitely be back for another stay at this hotel.

Thank you Allison for taking the time to post a very nice review of ourselves & The Waverley, very pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us.
We do of course offer Fortunes Kippers (from the local smoke house) as a choice for breakfast & as you quite rightly pointed out we are a short walk from the harbour, town & beach.
We look forward to welcoming you back to The Waverley.
Kind regards D&T

There are lots of good things about this B&B and some not so good but the lady that owns it has to be the worst. When we first arrived I asked what we should do with the car (as everywhere is permit) and her reply was "park it?" in very sarcastic tone. When I asked about a permit she was very short with me saying "did you not but buy one with the room?" I didn't even know this was an option as it had never been mentioned! She then showed me on a map which roads were the permit roads, then asked if I wanted to buy one for a pound!!! Or use the pay and display?? All needlessly confusing and her attitude was really annoying me and hubby!!!

She mentioned that we were lucky to get just one night in whitby and when I asked if there was something going on she replied "because it's whitby!!" in a snobby tone!!!

The room was on the top floor with a view of the street and a tiny bathroom. It was very clean with good facilities and 'extra's' though more milk and sugar would have been appreciated (only 2 of each).

The bed wasn't a full size double and had on the heaviest quilt I've ever known - neither of us got a good nights sleep!!

The shower in the morning was in a tiny cubicle and only drizzled out and kept flicking from scorching hot to freezing cold.

The breakfast was delicious and plentiful with lots of toast and drinks supplied.

The b&b is around a 10 minute walk to the centre of whitby - make sure you're ok walking tho as lots of hills!!!

As we were leaving wed mentioned to the owner that we were on out way to Hull, only for her to make it clear what she thought about this city - again, very snobby, small minded and sarcastic!!!

Not sure how this B&B got a 4 star rating but it's clearly gone to the owners head- certainly not somewhere of chose to go back to! Many 'classier' establishments in the town centre for less money!!!

Well, what absolute twaddle, the only part that you got correct was the breakfast description, fortunately for us & unfortunately for you all of our previous reviews from our lovely guests paint a very different picture, so I guess that nobody will find your contribution very helpful at all.
Please do stop at one of the "classier" establishments next time you visit Whitby & wear your Tripadvisor badge with pride.

Just had our second stay at the Waverley and once again what a great stay we had. Warmly welcomed by David on arrival who sorted us out with a parking pass and carried our cases up to the room. As before we had room 5 which has everything you need and more besides, its very comfortable, has a great shower which comes with large fluffy bath towels, a great view out over to the Abbey and the room was immaculately clean and kept so throughout our stay. there is also free Wi-Fi for those who need to keep in touch with the outside world.

All the usual choices for breakfast and a really good cooked full English sets you up for the day.

Great location just a few minutes walk to all the delights of Whitby either by the scenic route of the Crescent, Captain Cook, the Whale bone arch and the steep steps to the Khyber pass or a more gentle route via the shops on Skinner street.

The parking at Whitby has undergone a huge change, no more free on street parking it is now a complicated system of cards or discs but no worries for Waverley guests David has it all sorted for you. The upside of this system is that day visitors to Whitby now have to use the pay and display car parks or the new park and ride consequently there are more spaces available for hotel guests.

There is no doubt the icing on the cake here is the charming and very friendly owners Tania and David for whom nothing is too much trouble and they go about their business with such remarkable coolness and great enthusiasm to ensure you have a memorable stay.

Tania and Dave are from the start very welcoming and nothing is to much trouble. A very friendly and relaxed feeling during the stay a couple that enjoy there job. The standard of the rooms would put many hotels to shame. The breakfast with locally sourced food is first class, even tips on how to cook kippers without the smell ( cheers Dave). When we return to Whitby it is the only place I will stay. The location is spot on and if a sea facing room a great view of the Abby. Many thanks Tania and Dave from Mo,Sue Daul and Mike.

We were only able to stay one night at the Waverly but had a very good experience.

The hosts were very nice and we were particularly impressed on how addressed us by our first name each time that they saw us. They were helpful from carrying our luggage, sorting out a parking pass (1 pound), and restaurant recommendations. They genuinely appeared to be interested in us a people and did not treat us as another set of anonymous guests.

The room had lovely views of the Abbey. It had a nice large double bed and was very spacious. Due to the size it actually seemed to be a little sparsely furnished although it did have a wardrobe, nightstands, chairs, etc. The tea tray was standard and perfect for cold evenings.

The bathroom was a little small and the power shower was typical (no power). The bathroom amenities were nice although it would be nice to have a separate bath soap bottle from a hand wash bottle so that one doesn't get into the shower and then have remember to grab the bath soap from the sink. The wallpaper also seemed to be coming away from the walls in the bathroom....a small thing and not a showstopper.

The breakfast was very well cooked and tasty. There plenty of options to satisfy the full English breakfast lovers and the lighter eaters as well.

The B & B is a Victorian house and decor (especially the dark green carpet in the hallway) was in keeping with the exterior. It is a short and hilly walk to all the main attractions and restaurants of Whitby.

It was a good experience and we would stay here again.
