Ok so when my parents invited me away with them a couple of years ago, I thought oh great I'm gonna get very very bored on this holiday, but I have to say I was so so wrong. We went with the camera club and I have to say that the hotel staff were amazing and very very helpful on arriving at the hotel, the group needed to get together and discuss the weeks events that were planned and the staff landed out a full afternoon tea and coffee with cakes.
The rooms were big and lovely with some period features and all the food was fantastic a wide variety each day, and the packed lunches were included each day and they would ask u the evening before what u wanted in ur lunch each day.
All in all one of the best hotels and holidays I've ever had 5 stars

The hotel was clean and comfortable, walking groups are obviously well known here as the packed lunches and drying facilities etc were excellent. Good location and helpful staff - just a bit regimented as regards mealtimes and serving - otherwisevery good.

We had the pleasure of having the first independently-booked stay in the Lodge in the grounds of the Hall. A wooden chalet, with all the conveniences of home, including oven, hob, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine, it came with one double bedroom ( with en suite) and two twin rooms ( plus a separate bathroom). There is a table with seating for four on the verandah.Free wifi was a bonus and the milk and bread a nice welcome present. We didn't eat in the Hall, although we did use the putting, swingball and croquet on two lovely sunny evenings. Set in beautiful countryside, a twenty minute walk into town, either by road, or the cinder path, Whitby is close by. Staff were unfailingly helpful with any queries.A very enjoyable stay at reasonable cost.

Larpool Hall is owned by HF Holidays, a walking holiday company. I came as one of a group of 20 people and stayed for a week. I have stayed at a number of their country houses and this is one of the best I have experienced. Hotel nicely located with lovely views from the front. Quite a distance from the town centre (or anywhere) but this doesn't worry walkers! Good facilities, nice and warm which was just as well as we had very cold and windy weather. Good room - rather small but everything worked and the bed, although a single one, was very comfortable. Food was excellent with always a good choice at breakfast and dinner. Note that HF holidays nearly always have 8-seater round tables in the restaurant. This is great if you want to mix in (most do) but wouldn't be so great for a romantic dinner for two. Decor very good, everything clean and as it should be. Staff all very friendly. A nice cosy bar.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front have the best view.

The hotel is like a stately home. We stayed in a four poster room on the front of the property overlooking rolling countryside. The room was huge and well equipped. The ensuite could be better though with an old shower over a bath not ideal. The staff were difficult to find at first and when we wanted them it took some hunting to find them. They were nice enough though.
The breakfast was a let down. It was cold, undercooked and the sausages actually tasted off. I will not stay here again. Also, not within walking distance of Whitby attractions.

I booked this hotel at the last minute during Goth Weekend so I could see the Dracula play at Whitby Abbey. A few of the online reviews made it seem that you would be made to feel an outsider if you were not part of the HF Holiday group but this was not the case. OK - I do have a keen interest in walking anyway so perhaps that helped but the key is to talk to people! The hotel is nice and quiet, well kept and clean and the staff were friendly and helpful. A nice selection of wine behind the bar (at the usual hotel prices) and a 3 course dinner is bookable in advance (they also allow for smaller portions and are happy to advise on special diets such as gluten free) for the price of around £22. There is a free pool table, board games and a dart board. The food was very nice and the breakfasts generous. Dinner seating is at communal round tables and yes the walking groups are seated at their own tables but they are on a communal holiday. I did sit by invitation with the walking groups and everyone was very friendly and chatty and they were as interested in my day and my plans as I was with theirs. The room I booked was a single for two nights and it was by far the nicest room I have ever been given on a single booking! Very comfortable bed, nice and clean with a TV and they do have wi-fi but the connection due to the location is a bit hit and miss. A friend joined me at the hotel and he stayed just for one night - his room was the smaller of the two (both had double beds) but I guess the bigger room went to me due to the two night stay I had. He also liked the food and the hotel and the location. I would book here myself for the walking at another time but would equally return here to use it as a base to do other things in the area - the hotel is very close to Whitby town and the main roads so you get a good start on your travels. If you do book for your own purposes, as long as you remember that this is a hotel owned by a holiday company for walkers and you are prepared to make conversations with groups of people then you will not be disappointed with Larpool Hall. They do take family bookings at certain times of year to do walking with families but I am not sure this would be an ideal location for the infirm or disabled due to the nature of the countryside and also as the house is old there are lots of steps here and there which may not be suitable.

Just had a wekend at Larpool Hall. It's an ideal venue for a group walking holiday as it caters for wet boots, packed lunches, evening activities eg table tennis, mixed tables for dining. Our room was at the front and had lovely autumnal views. Comfy bed, excellent shower, tea/coffee (and flask making) facilities, tv.
The food was good and plentiful (although the menu choices on the Saturday night we were there weren't to everybody's liking (trio of sausages/seafood medley/vegetable dish (which was mainly courgettes) with goats cheese on top). The breakfasts and packed lunches are very good indeed.
I don't think I'd want to stay there just as a couple, but in a group it was ideal.
