this hotel is an oasis of peace and quiet. wonderful garden that you can just unwind in. quiet room with a wonderfuly comfortable bed, sheer heaven, you just sank into it, (love to know where to get the mattress topper from). The room was lovely and light and would definitely love to stay again. were expecting a smaller room as described on website (club room) so wonderfully surprised by the size of room and ensuite. spa wonderful and we used the pool twice and were the only ones in there, your own private pool where you broke the surface of the water and didnt have to avoid children. staff very friendly and helpful and you come away feeling so calm and serene. cannt reccoment this hotel enough and will definitly reccomend it to our friends.

Room Tip: garden veiw rooms have a great view. avoid the rooms above bins as deliveries are early even at week...

Just returned from this hotel which is as they say is fresh out of the box-it's so new that it even smells like a show house, you know the newly laid carpet smell. We were met on arrival by Richard with the warmest welcome I can recall anywhere-brilliant.Check in was pleasant and smiley-in fact smiley is the characteristic of all the staff we encountered.Spa facilities are exceptionally clean and show fantastic attention to detail in the changing areas and the spa-the view from the hot tub into the garden area is a zen experience-you won't find calmer than this.Bar service is pleasant and attentive,I did mention that my first sip of Black Sheep Ale was unusual and the barrel was promptly changed. The staff appear to welcome feedback -on our first evening we mentioned that our bottle of Rioja improved as it was allowed to breathe,on our second evening the cork was removed an hour before our meal-this is thoughtful and attentive stuff-brilliant.Most of the food we tasted was really good-the hotel makes great play of sourcing its food locally-the provenance of all the breakfast dishes is displayed next to the dishes-brilliant.I've used the word brilliant a few times and this is entirely justified, however there are some aspects which are less so.The first concerns the DBB package we booked which starts to look less than convincing when you have sight of the menu-in reality this package gives you access to less than half the dishes on the menu-the other half carry a supplement and in some cases a very hefty one. Also the included dishes appear to be less than a full plate of food-my goat's cheese parfait was one slice of cheese the size of a two pound coin with three leavesand three halves of walnut,a sliver of pear and a blob of tasteless sauce. As they say on master chef this was not a good plate of food. This was the low point of the food experience. The highs were very well cooked quail one evening and new season's grouse the next. However portions were small. If you'd spent the day walking and worked up an appetite these meals would not satisfy. The other significant negative was the room size.We had booked a basic room which we always do-I can't recall a smaller room anywhere. You would need to be Stuart Little or Bilbo Baggins to find this spacious. We had to take turns to get dressed in the morning as the floor space was so limited. There was one chair which when pulled out from under the desk hit the bed.The room had one small window set high up on the right hand side with a view of a roof and in truth it felt rather claustrophobic-I'm relieved we only booked for two nights. The bizarre fact is that the ensuite bathroom was spacious with a double shower and bath-clearly the hotel designer thought that guests would spend the majority of their time there. So it appears that the management of the hotel expect the majority of guests to pay more to get an acceptable room and pay more to get acceptable portions of food. Shame really as this hotel has the potential to be exceptional.

Ack

Room Tip: Pay more to get a decent sized room

“Having decided to take a few days away from our flood damaged home, we found Raithwaite Hotel via a Google search of 5* accommodation in the Whitby area. It was a trip in which we hoped to feel thoroughly relaxed and I guess 'spoilt' owing to our current situation at home. The Raithwaite and it's excellent staff delivered everything we expected and we departed commenting to one another that it had been 'faultless'. Well done to an excellent team of staff in beautiful surroundings. Thank you all”.

We booked Raithwaite Hall because our usual hotel in Whitby was fully booked. How fortuitous ....! As you approach you feel you will be arriving at some half finished building site, but the Hall is now complete and is really lovely. The staff are really welcoming, which all four of us commented on. We were two couples and paid almost £300 each couple for B&B for two nights. Our room was fine; very modern, lovely shower and bathroom and very comfortable bed. There was an ironing board (which I always like), plus tea and coffee. Our friend's room was much smaller, with no bath and only two high up velux windows. If you book, ask for a room on the first floor. Breakfast was just amazing, and we wished we'd had enough time to dine in. The grounds are a delight, and the spa looked very good, though we didn't have time to use it - sadly. We will return, and hopefully stay for a little longer because tranquility seems to be the name of the game here...!!

Room Tip: For standard rooms, stay on first floor. Not the third as these are 'attic' style rooms.

Stayed overnight after a Rotary lunch which was most enjoyable. Top marks go to the staff who were natural, friendly, helpful and made time for you. Our room was sheer luxury with en-suite to match. I've never seen such a large shower and mirror. Breakfast was of an extremely high standard with several special touches such as individual jars of cereal an sensible-sized jars of delicious local marmalade. Excellent. Thank you.

Went to Raithwaite Hall Country retreat for 3 nights to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday. The hotel opened last October so everything is very new. We had a deluxe room with own patio and seating area on the first floor. The rooms are large and have super king size beds. Linen, towels and bathrobes are of superior quality and Molton Brown toiletries provided in bathroom. Chocolates and fudge in room as a gift for my husbands birthday. Great attention to detail was evident everywhere in the hotel. Turn down service with bottled water left on bedside tables at night was a nice touch.
The restaurant does not have an extensive menu but the food is delicious and again attention to detail was second to none. I have never had ice cream presented to me so beautifully.
Breakfast is one of the highlights of the stay - a huge choice with all locally sourced food if possible. Everything you would want was available.
Poachers bar was another great place to eat if you didn't want be so formal as the restaurant. I had the best dessert ever in Poachers Bar.
The pool spa steam rooms etc are not huge but adequate. The spa treatment area is very relaxing and the therapist very friendly. Everyone at the hotel had time to speak to you and the gardeners were very helpful and would talk about the plants and advise about what was best for certain types of gardens and soil etc. A fabulous hotel in a beautiful setting. Thank you for making our stay so special. We will certainly return.
