Whitby and the North York Moors are wonderful places to visit but for a long time (been coming here for 40 years) if you came here you'd wish for a place you could stay in that was good. Well here you are: Raithwaite Hall is good.

What do you want? A nice bed? Raithwaite's was one of the best beds I've slept in. I was a bit squiffy when I got my head down, having given their wine list a bit of a beating but seriously these are good beds. The room was bright, well equipped, blah blah but what sets this place apart is the people.

We parked the car and were tackled by a gardener (wearing just a t shirt despite it being freezing outside) who carried our bags to reception. I have stayed in hotels throughout Europe and have never had this happen. We were checked in fast and friendly, which is what you want after a long drive, the doorman (Richard?) took us to our room and explained everything to us.

Don't bring: bathrobes, slippers or hairdryers, they're all provided. DO bring sparkling wine: the doorman will notice you have it and ten minutes after you check in a bucket of ice and two champagne flutes arrive in your room.

We had a few drinks in Poachers Bar then had a trough in the main restaurant. Now I have eaten risotto from the Alps to Rome on a bicycle tour down Italy but have - seriously folks - never had it as good as their beets risotto with Wensleydale cheese. The waiting staff were great: I had the steak, my wife had the pheasant as mains. My only criticism is that we could have done with less - in fact no - Norah Jones on the stereo while we ate.

Tip: leave room for breakfast. I don't know how Raithwaite's Yorkshire breakfast compares to your average Full English, but this was good. Bang on sausages and bacon, a chef on hand to do eggs the way you want them.

Checkout was fine, the doorman carrying bags to our car despite our protests. We'll be back.

First visit a week or two ago.

Great sevice and accomodation, nice ambiance in the restaurant and bar areas.

Even though the weather was a bit blustery we walked from he hotel down the beach into Whitby - this took around 35 minutes at a brisk pace.
The next day we travelled along the beach in the other direction to Sandsend which is only 5 - 10 minutes walk.

There is golf course literally at the end of the drive to the hotel.

Great location for walking or to explore the coast by car, Scarborough and Robins Hood bay to name but two.

Good facilities with the smimming pool, sauna / steam rooms well presented - also has a small gym. Plus spa.

Would recommend and will return. As other contributions it is a little on the expensive side.

One point to note is the drive way is quite long and a little narrow - I never thought I would actually advocate the use of speed ramps !! but whereas most motorists were fine and adhered to the speed limit you always get the odd "numpty- head" who takes no notice of speed restrictions.

I have visited Raithwaite Hall twice this year (although haven't stayed over.) The first time, my sister, mother and I booked in for two treatments each, full use of the spa and a two course meal each. Unfortunately, someone was off and all our treatments could not be delivered but the staff were brilliant about this. My sister and I were offered one treatment each, full use of the spa and a two course meal each for a discounted price. The two of us visited again earlier this month for the taster package - one treatment each, full use of the spa and afternoon tea for £70 each. I would really recommend it! The facial was amazing, very professional and friendly and lovely products! We went on a Friday and it was much quieter than our previous Saturday visit. Children must leave the spa area by 12 and we got a very chilled out rest in the sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and pool area. There are beds to lay on which are very comfortable. Afternoon tea was lovely - plenty of tea, a selection of sandwiches and cakes followed by a jam and cream scone. I would definitely go again! Worth every penny!

We stayed at this hotel for a short break in October 2012. A very modern hotel and we could not fault the hotel and its staff. The little special touches are well thought, the things that spring to mind are apples in the room from the orchard and turndown on an evening with bottles of water left on the bedside tables.

Breakfast was great with an excellent choice, although the restaurant is on the small side so can get rather busy.

We stayed in a courtyard suite over looking the gardens, well worth the extra money and came with a downstairs lounge and huge bedroom above.

We used the pool which was very relaxing, tip - pick your time to visit the pool otherwise it will be overrun with kids. We went from our room in our dressing gowns to the pool, and got some funny looks from other residents, but this didn't bother us.

Hotel bar area also very good.

Remember to visit the llamas in the field near to the hotel, very cute, we wanted to take one home with us. The gardens are amazing and a credit to the gardeners.

Only downside is the carparking which is a few minutes walk from reception. You can drive your car up and drop off your bags, however their were a number of guests who take it upon themselves just to park and leave their cars in the drop off section for their entire stay.

This hotel is highly recommended and we will certainly return. We would score this hotel 11 out of 10, you will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: If you can afford the upgrade, then choose the courtyard suites. These have a lounge downstairs with...

We stayed for my boyfriends 40th and we can do nothing but sing the praise of this hotel. It is worth every penny for the exceptional quality of the rooms, cleanliness, atmosphere, setting and selection of the highest quality produce such as fresh honeycomb for breakfast, glass jars containing natural yoghurt and mango. In the rooms we had lovely clean white towels, robes, bottled water, biscuits, hair drier, premium toiletries, and fancy shower head/hand accessory. The gardens were magnificent and the lake and lovely for weddings or those special weekends away. The resort is about £7 taxi fair to Whitby and just a stone throw from Sandsend. It is beautifully situated and convenient for Whitby on foot or by car. We havent forgotten to mention the spa, this is clean and you can go on a spa journey enjoying cold and heat treatment from pool to sauna, cold monsoon shower to hot tub. The only one thing that lets this hotel down is that it is not adult only as children in the spa facilities was not relaxing and we subsequently departed due to the noise whilst trying to read. We will definitely return for the next big event and thank all the staff for their hospitality.
