....well maybe not the best hotel in the world but certainly the best in this part of the world and fantastic value.

Two of us paid £120 for a relaxing one night stay with full use of spa facilties and breakfast. There is an option to pay a little extra for a larger room but we really didn't see the need: our room (303) was on the top floor, spacious, clean with a beautiful bathroom and everything you could reasonably need, so save your money for a spa treatment instead.

The spa area is in the lower ground floor of the hotel and consists of a decent sized pool (1.2 metres depth so suitable for youngsters), a steam room, sauna and spa-pool with hot tables and plenty of loungers to relax upon. There is a small gym but neither of us used it (C'mon guys, you're having a relaxing break!!) and a variety of spa treatments are available (see the website). If you want to take advantage of this, it's probably worth booking ahead because there was only very limited availability and you may be disappointed.

We didn't eat in the restaurant so cannot comment on the dinner service, preferring instead to have a leisurely walk into town via the picturesque cliff top walk. It takes about an hour to get to West Cliff and a little longer to cross into town.

A taxi back cost £6.00 and takes about 10 minutes. We had a great nights' sleep in the most peaceful hotel I have stayed in for a long time; no slamming doors, no general hotel noise and no passing traffic. The next morning we enjoyed a beautiful breakfast consisting of (mainly) locally sourced cooked breakfast items and a cold buffet with yoghurt, fruit and freshly baked breads and pastries, which was delicious and set us up for the whole day. Only bug-bear I have was the £5 supplement for certain items including kippers - a trip to Whitby really isn't complete without a kipper but I thought it should have been included.

Every member of staff was friendly and helpful (particular mention to Pete the Porter who was very convivial and knowledgable) and every little detail from the toiletries to the external gardens were meticulously thought about and taken care of.

£120 (not including spa treatments) it is not a lot of money and we left feeling pampered and relaxed. Treat yourself, you know you deserve it!

Stayed overnight on a dinner Bed and Breakfast break on the 3rd of April 2013, we felt welcome from the moment we walked into the Hotel, the staff were all smiling without exception and couldn't do enough to make our stay special. The accommodation was very well furnished, our bathroom was huge and the beds extremely comfortable, the spa was lovely as were the robes and towels . The food was fantastic, the breakfast particularly stood out as you could taste each item of food and you didn't need any sauces to complement it. The setting for the hotel is stunning and I look forward to visiting again when the garden is in bloom.

Room Tip: Look at the Raithwaite hall website and book yourself a great value break, you won't be disappoi...

Whitby and the North York Moors are wonderful places to visit but for a long time (been coming here for 40 years) if you came here you'd wish for a place you could stay in that was good. Well here you are: Raithwaite Hall is good.

What do you want? A nice bed? Raithwaite's was one of the best beds I've slept in. I was a bit squiffy when I got my head down, having given their wine list a bit of a beating but seriously these are good beds. The room was bright, well equipped, blah blah but what sets this place apart is the people.

We parked the car and were tackled by a gardener (wearing just a t shirt despite it being freezing outside) who carried our bags to reception. I have stayed in hotels throughout Europe and have never had this happen. We were checked in fast and friendly, which is what you want after a long drive, the doorman (Richard?) took us to our room and explained everything to us.

Don't bring: bathrobes, slippers or hairdryers, they're all provided. DO bring sparkling wine: the doorman will notice you have it and ten minutes after you check in a bucket of ice and two champagne flutes arrive in your room.

We had a few drinks in Poachers Bar then had a trough in the main restaurant. Now I have eaten risotto from the Alps to Rome on a bicycle tour down Italy but have - seriously folks - never had it as good as their beets risotto with Wensleydale cheese. The waiting staff were great: I had the steak, my wife had the pheasant as mains. My only criticism is that we could have done with less - in fact no - Norah Jones on the stereo while we ate.

Tip: leave room for breakfast. I don't know how Raithwaite's Yorkshire breakfast compares to your average Full English, but this was good. Bang on sausages and bacon, a chef on hand to do eggs the way you want them.

Checkout was fine, the doorman carrying bags to our car despite our protests. We'll be back.

First visit a week or two ago.

Great sevice and accomodation, nice ambiance in the restaurant and bar areas.

Even though the weather was a bit blustery we walked from he hotel down the beach into Whitby - this took around 35 minutes at a brisk pace.
The next day we travelled along the beach in the other direction to Sandsend which is only 5 - 10 minutes walk.

There is golf course literally at the end of the drive to the hotel.

Great location for walking or to explore the coast by car, Scarborough and Robins Hood bay to name but two.

Good facilities with the smimming pool, sauna / steam rooms well presented - also has a small gym. Plus spa.

Would recommend and will return. As other contributions it is a little on the expensive side.

One point to note is the drive way is quite long and a little narrow - I never thought I would actually advocate the use of speed ramps !! but whereas most motorists were fine and adhered to the speed limit you always get the odd "numpty- head" who takes no notice of speed restrictions.
