“Lovely relaxing stay”
Reviewed 8 May 2014

We stayed just before Easter for 2 nights in the Keep at a good rate of £300 including breakfast. The Keep is a small hotel within the grounds of the main hotel, around 20 odd rooms a bar and eating area for breakfast, modern light and well proportioned.

The rooms were spacious with an outside area for seating, good bathrooms and facilities. The main hotel has a smallish spa area and gym, was pretty quiet when we were there but it could get busy if the hotel is fuller I feel.

Lovely grounds to walk around and a nice walk into Whitby or Sandsend down the beach is worthwhile. Breakfast was excellent, lots of choice and very tasty. The staff were mostly young but very friendly and attentive, genuinely nice.

2 small things, the Keep advertised they had soya at breakfast but this was in the main hotel as was the bottled beer I asked for that evening. I feel that they should have gone to the main hotel to get some or stock it in the Keep, you cannot say it is in the main hotel, it should be available if on the site. Good customer service overall slightly let down by this.

lovely hotel, beautiful setting but whole experience marred by dreadfully slow service in dining room. Table booked at 2030, appetizers served at 2115, at 2200 complained to Manager as still no sign of main course - not one member of staff came to apologise or explain the delay. They allow children in the spa pool - all very well for them screaming and shouting enjoying themselves but not a pleasurable experience for the adults. All in all a lovely weekend ruined. Breakfast service also a bit of a shambles - plates, dishes not replenished on a timely basis, hot buffet not kept stocked up - had to ask twice for toast and coffee/ tea - not good enough for a hotel that calls itself 5* luxury - go somewhere else - its over priced for what it delivers.

Room Tip: room with balcony over the gardens - 202 or 201

From the moment you arrive, to the second you leave, the attentive and discrete staff ensure your stay is seamless. The attention to detail, from menu, decor, grounds to ambience is hard to beat. I highly recommend this boutique spa hotel! Easy to see why it has the small luxury hotel accreditation. Well done

Excellent one night stay in The Keep . The customer service from the staff is very good - they even put our bikes in a room of their own to keep them secure! Nice bedrooms with plush bathrooms, very good bar snack and lovely swim in the pool. Overall very good.

We stayed for two nights in April after booking last minute. This place is not cheap, but the rooms and facilites are superb. We stayed in The Keep and found the accommodation comfortable and clean, staff attentive and friendly. We used the Spa facilities which were great. Breakfast was fit for a king ready to set you up for the day, we didn't eat evening meals there due to poor ratings from previous comments on here. We didn't expect to find that building work was underway during our visit but it didn't spoil the stay. However I feel that the expansion of this Estate may spoil what they have at the moment, let's hope it doesn't.

We have just returned from staying Saturday night with two other couples and enjoyed quality service superb breakfast in the sun room with lovely garden views we had our evening meal at the keepers which was excellent as was the service & staff we did a offer which included Sunday lunch which is well worth it worth every penny the rooms were nice & clean we weren't in the main building but were only a mins walk from the hotel. We walked into Whitby on the beach it's a beautiful walk but you need to be fit it took us a couple of hours there and back but we worked up a appetite for our lunch it's ideal for a nice quite weekend away with lovely friends.

My parents really enjoyed it, exceptional service and quality all round.
Rooms were immaculate and the food a breakfast plentiful and great quality.
Would definately recommend.
