“Great Guest house”

I stayed here for the night while in Whitby and found it such a great place to stay. Nothing was out their way or no trouble. The cooked breakfast in the morning was amazing prob one of the best that I have had!! I would certainly stay here again when up in Whitby

Absolutely lovely couple that make this a wonderful B&B ! My mum has stayed here several times before and I can see why. Nice room, comfy beds, decent bathroom, gorgeous breakfast. Would definitely stay again if I ever go back to Whitby. Thanks Jools & John for a lovely stay xx

We arrived in Whitby with nowhere to stay and were prepared for a bit of a trudge around to find a decent B&B. Fortunately we hit the jackpot with the very first place we looked at!
The outside of the Chiltern is tidy and well looked after which always bodes well! We were greeted with friendly faces and showed the last room they had free, which was on the top floor. The guest house is carpeted the same throughout with a nice modern carpet and decor is sort of neutral but not at all bland. The bed in our room was a king size with a clean modern en suite and given the price, (£65) I didn't hesitate to accept.
The lady showing us around gave us all the information we needed and even got me an extra heater because I feel the cold really easily and I had asked how warm the room would stay at night.

We slept really well ( I didn't need the heater) and breakfast was excellent, with different teas, cereals, fruit, juice and the traditional English breakfast which had my favourite black pudding! The cooked breakfast was not at all greasy and came in good time.

It was a shame we weren't staying longer but I would be more than happy to return here as it met my most important requirements... Clean, good breakfast and good price.

Me and my partner just arrived back from our stay in whitby and had a lovely time! The room was exactly what we wanted, when u book a bed and breakfast the idea is a clean bed to sleep in and a clean wash room to freshen up in which is exactly what we paid for and got, the bed itself was huge, a little firm for our liking but that's individual preference the owners were lovely and couldn't do enough for you, the breakfast is perfect to wake up
To cooked to order with plenty of fresh juice, cereals etc. And only a 5 min walk from the whale bones/restaurants and pubs what more do u need?

Billed as "Pet Friendly" we booked in with our small dog. We were shown to a tiny room with a showeroom the size of postage stamp!! The fixtures were pink 1980's apart from a new and tiny vanity unit. The decor was shabby and poorly hung paper starting to come off the walls, we were told that there were two dog friendly rooms!! We asked to move because the seal on our window had gone, and it was a howling gale which whistled like a train through our window, but told that there was no alternative. Sleeping was a nightmare - with the whistling through the window, and every time the person upstairs turned in bed you could hear it!! In the morning the people in the room next door, may as well have been in our room whilst showering!! The walls are made of cardboard. We had already been told, we could not take our little dog into the dining room - what are we supposed to do - leave her alone in a strange room or the option of putting her in the car in sub zero temperature?? As the owners were not there, but the place was being looked after by another lady, we came to a compromise and she opened the door into the next room and little Rosie sat on her blanket just outside the dining room (its not law you can't have dogs in the dining room!! - why advertise as pet friendly if you aren't!!) We had had a lovely meal in the Granby just down the road the previous evening - where Rosie was perfectly welcome. Altogether a bad experience and I would never stay again or recommend the Chiltern. I have stayed in many b& b'S (with the dog) and some are as good as five star hotels. As an experienced traveller, I would rate this as "Nil" star. Good points the breakfast was huge, if you like huge breakfasts, and they did concede we had had a bad night by reducing the rate - but sorry still Nil star.
