“Cosy little Cottage, perfect for a weekend or week away.”

Great Communication from the management, arrived to a well presented and cosy cottage. Perfect for pets with a very nice lounge/ dining room and a fully equipped kitchen. We found the bed a little uncomfortable but that is a personal preference. There was no direct parking in front of the property but this was not an issue as you can park less than 15 Meters down the road. Myself and partner thoroughly enjoyed our stay and there is plenty to do in and around the area itself. I would highly recommend The Wayfarer Bistro & Guest House for eating out. We look forward to booking again in the future.

Hello Daryl & Nichole
Thanks for the comments, It's interesting that Chapel Cottage was half of a Methodist Chapel and the raised pavement at the front (this is a country lane, which stops us parking there) formed part of the front entrance to the Chapel. Character comes at a price. Like you we can always get parked in the village with no trouble. Really glad enjoyed your stay. Hope to welcome back in the future.

Regards

Such a great stay. The cottage was great and clean and the bed so comfy. The owners couldn't have done more for us when we realised we didn't have towels.. Ralied around and bought them! The walk to robins bay is lovely, the locals super friendly and we will definitely return
The shower was also really powerful and lovely x

Thank you Loraine, Sam, sue and Robert x

“Home from Home ”

My fiance and I stayed here in September for a week. Lovely wee house that is well equipped. Home from Home. If we were to come back in the future we would definitely return here. Comfy and cosy. Only slight down fall is lack of parking as it's on a wee country lane and the plug in the bath fell out every time you moved. But apart from that a lovely wee house.

Holidays should be relaxing, we really like to keep that cosy feel. It is still a country lane but you should have been fine parking close by. The plug was a little rascal! Tricky little thing, since superseded! now bath can be a soak not a challenge... Look forward to welcoming you back. Robert.

Hello Carl
Yes, the cottage was a Methodist chapel for over an 100 years. Very useful they subsequently built the pub around 50 paces away !
Glad you enjoyed your stay

What a fantastic cottage.Everything and more.Always stayed at the caravan park in Fylingthorpe but this has changed our minds,Great base for all the beaches and walkable from cottage down to Robin Hoods Bay (or dragged by two eager springers). We are here for Christmas and the cottage has been tastefully decorated.Definately coming back.

Its a terrific time of year at the coast. There is little to beat the crisp bright mornings in an area steeped in history. Really glad it helped make your Christmas.
Have a good new year.

After reading the reviews about the cottage I booked a long weekend. We arrived at 3:20 and yes we knew check in was 4pm but after a 5 hour drive from Scotland with our dog we just wanted to get in and settled. On arrival we were quickly followed by the cleaners who had arrived to clean the cottage. We're were politely asked to leave and return in an hour giving us a check in time of 4.25. It was pouring with rain at this point and we were in an area we didn't know but we left as requested. We arrived back at 4:10 to find the cleaners had left however we were met by the owner at the front door ad sung that the cottage was now "spotless" This couldn't have been further from the truth as my photos will show. The bathroom was the worst with the toilet and shower being particularly disgusting. I don't know if this cottage has ever been given a deep clean but I'd doubt it. I admit I had my suspicions that it would be cleaned properly given that the cleaners arrived 40 mins before check in to clean a 2 bed cottage and change 3 beds. In addition the overall condition of the furniture, the walls with missing plaster and unfinished plaster and paintwork did not give a positive first impression. I would like to add that I have e- mailed the owners twice and given them an opportunity to reply however they have not. I am not used to posting derogatory reviews however on this occasion I feel justified.

Dear Mrs Gallen

As you would imagine I'm very disappointed with your review. However, this may not be for the reason you think.

You did not mention any these issues to us whilst you were at Chapel Cottage, only after you left.

Your comment was sent at 22.56pm on Monday 18th July. These were read on Tuesday 19th July and I immediately asked our service staff to let me know the circumstances on your arrival. Whilst awaiting this (and less than 24 hours after the first email) you sent me a reminder email on Wednesday 20th July giving me the "benefit of the doubt" as to receipt of the first email. I replied the same day, Wednesday 20th July (within 48 hours) that I was already looking into this and out of courtesy to both you and our service staff, I wanted full details and had asked them to let me have their comments so I could reply to you on my return to the office on Monday. You had this before you posted your review. Regardless of this and despite this, you posted your review.

You arrived at Chapel Cottage shortly before the service staff who arrived at 3:10pm (check in is 4.00 pm, as you acknowledge). The service staff did not ask you to leave and said you were very welcome to stay whilst they serviced the cottage (notwithstanding you were very difficult with them). It was not raining at the time.

There were two service staff joined by another shortly after. The service staff had just left before you arrived back at 4.10pm and you did not speak to anyone on entering the Cottage.

We are more than pleased to try and accommodate early arrivals if we can but we do need a request for this so that we can check that the service staff can alter their schedule to accommodate the request. We would have been happy to do this for you if you asked, which you did not.

The two photographs showing paint/plaster damage are correct. Earlier a guest had over balanced coming downstairs and damaged a small area of plasterwork to the stairs which has been temporarily repaired pending redecoration. There is also a small area of paintwork that has come off adjacent to the new front door. We are aware of both of these and have asked a local decorator to deal with these on a changeover day (asking him to be clear for 4.00pm), but he has yet to call and whilst it will be repaired shortly, we do not feel this in any way affects the enjoyment of the Cottage and Area.

We struggled with the other photographs you attached with your email, for a while. Our problem was we factually Know that the Cottage was fully and properly serviced when you went in. We then worked out when these photographs had been taken.

When the service staff initially arrived to clean the cottage, as it had been left by the previous holidaymakers (no doubt, and in fairness, in the knowledge it was going to be cleaned), your partner rushed into the bathroom and locked the door. The photographs you have put on the review are from that visit before the cottage was serviced and cleaned!

You had complained in your email to me that check in at 4pm and leaving by 10am was “ridiculous" (but it clearly lets you know these times on the booking form, as you acknowledge, to give the service staff time to do their work).

You had spoken to my secretary on the telephone shortly after 3pm on the day, asking if she knew anywhere you could wait (She pointed out the Fylingdales Pub which serves food/coffee and is dog friendly, 52 paces away) and Sue had returned your call within a few minutes of that, saying she was to visit the cottage and suggested you leave anything you wanted in the cottage whilst the service staff cleaned (notwithstanding the check in time and that you were also very difficult with her).

I was at Chapel Cottage that afternoon to leave a new BBQ that is in the rear garden and was sat in the Green Land Rover in the road when you arrived back. I was about to offer help as you seemed to have difficulty with our new “talking door” when you entered Chapel Cottage, without speaking to anyone.

We have for many years gone out of our way to ensure guests have a good stay. We need feedback on points we may have missed or inadvertently overlooked so we really do want people to tell us if there is something wrong. But I do not understand your motivation in, at best, your “misleading” comments and posting pictures of the cottage before it was serviced and claiming it was like this for your stay?

Regards,

Robert Crosbie
