“Definitely worth a visit”
Reviewed 10 April 2012 via mobile

We decided to avoid the usual tourist trap of trying to have fish and chips at Magpies in Whitby and took the recommendation of others on this site to try Hadleys instead. There was a small queue and a wait of 5 minutes outside to be finally seated towards the back of the restaurant. Ordering was quick and easy with menus on the table and a waitress on hand within minutes of being seated. We chose the small cod and chips each and were pleased to note they all came with free tea and bread and butter. The meals were delivered within 5 minutes of ordering and we were glad to see that than the portion sizes were as big as we had been told to expect. I can eat quite well but any bigger than these and I might have been struggling! The cost per person was £7.25 and this was very good value. It was nice to be able to sit indoors but you can just as easily order take out. It was a lovely meal with super service and we could see why other people recommend and return to this fish and chip restaurant.

We went to Whitby on Tuesday March 27, I had been recommended Hadleys by a work colleague. We had a small cod and chips and a medium as well two teas with bread and butter for under 20£. The small cod was a fair size and obviously the medium a lot bigger, it was more than enough. I have a big appetite but a large cod would have been too much for even me. Service was excellent.

Went to Whitby on the spur of the moment, when we arrived we soon found out it was a sixties weekend, everywhere in the centre of town was booked. Fortunately someone suggested we tried Hadleys, £50 for the night room only was excellent value considering the position. The rooms were recently refurbished, clean and comfortable. It is above the Hadleys fish restaurant but it was not a problem. Breakfast is not a problem as there are anumber of cafes close by. The only thing I would be aware of is the stairs are a spiral and quite steep, I would check if you have problems climbing stairs.
You are ideally placed to explore the old part of Whitby and parking is available at two car parks that are close by. It seems that the best time to get a space is after 5pm as the daytrippers and fishermen leave at this time. We would definitely go back for a weekend.

We have stayed here before and decided to give it another go as it was ok and cheaper than most other places.. At £50.00 per night, it's ideal and only a short walk from the car park. We had a bit of a shock when we walked in the room as it had been totally refurbished. Brand new shower en suite, all new furniture and looked lovely. I couldn't believe it for the price. Very nice indeed.

It would not suit people with disabilities as being an old building it has 2 floors of spiral stairs to walk up. Also, it is near the main pubs on Church street, so expect some noise outside on a night. For those who drive, the long stay car park near the train station was only £6.00 for 24hours. No breakfast is included in stay, but for the price we cannot fault it. I will stay here every time I visit Whitby now. Spot on!

Oh and if you like your fish and chips, it's above the chippy too (but don't worry, the rooms don't pong of chips!)
