Stayed for two nights mon/tues in July. Did not book , just saw the room advertised in the shop. Picked it because it is right in the heart of the old town and the room was advertised for £50 a night ! Was such a pleasant place to stay we stayed for two nights. Room 5 with a double bed and corner bath was awesome . Great little balcony to sit on . Noisy seagulls but did not hear any noise from other rooms ourselves . Perfect for a nice two day break . Lovely friendly people and we will be back .

The shepherd’s purse accommodation is charming and perfectly situated behind Church Street within a very short walk of the best restaurants in Whitby. We (my wife and I) went there for a weekend for our anniversary and stayed in room 1 which is one of 2 ground floor rooms which open directly onto the private courtyard. The rooms are basic but well accessorised in a Catherine Kitson/Laura Ashley style with an interesting variety of teas and fresh coffee provided. We couldn’t help peeking into room 2 when the maid was in and we noticed a romantic four poster bed and regretted not booking earlier. We did enjoy a bottle of champagne in the courtyard away from the hustle and bustle of Church Street which was very busy. We had breakfast in different places each day and both of them were within 20 yards of the room. On the downside the downstairs rooms are overlooked by an upstairs room opposite and if you feel like a nap in the afternoon – which we did after a long and very beautiful walk – then the close proximity to the courtyard means you have to close all the curtains to guarantee privacy. In fact even when just watching TV anyone sitting in the courtyard is a little close for comfort.

Room Tip: Book early and avoid the downstairs rooms

Beautiful setting and rooms, however, it is a couples hotel really and the walls are very thin! Such a wonderful stay and the couple in room 5 kept us entertained!

The room was lovely, everything you could want for a weekend away: great location, nice furnishings, friendly staff and cosy room. Unfortunately the only downside was the lack of bathroom. As a young couple we shared a bath (with held shower) with a family of 4....extremely frustrating after almost 2 hours of constant bathroom use. Also the bath is in the attic, as a couple we are both over 5"8 & it involved kneeling at all times in the bath.
Was such a gorgeous place so a shame about the bathrooom!

Stayed here for one night mid week and absolutely loved it!! Situated off the main street in Whitby's old town in a beautiful little courtyard, we booked to stay in room 5 which is the four poster bedroom on the first floor with its own (covered) balcony. As soon as I walked in I knew it was right up my street... My husband commented it was slightly 'girly' but I'm sure men don't appreciate decor and the 'little touches' half as much as us women do! There were little knick knacks everywhere- doilies, rose curtain tie-backs, lace cushions, hand cream as well as the beautiful four poster canopy bed and a chest with all the teas, coffees and hot chocolates you could wish for.
The bathroom lacked a shower but with a massive corner seat bath complete with complimentary toiletries, who cares? Although breakfast isn't included, there is the Sanders Yard cafe next door which serves continental and cooked breakfast options from early in the morning and it is literally a 10 second walk from your door. We paid £75 for the pleasure of staying in our beautiful room at Shepherd's Purse and would most definitely pay it again- it's a real gem.

Quaint little place, shabby chic style. Everything there you would need, nice courtyard, great location. "Reception" is in the shop and closes at 5pm, though no bother as they leave instructions for you. Only downside is no breakfast.Would probably stay again though..

I booked this guest house for my daughters 21st birthday as a suprise. They couldn't have gone out their way more. Staff were brilliant and did a perfect job of decorating the room for our arrival. They even left a complimentory present for my daughter, which was a nice touch. I have stayed here many times in the past and the room was up to the usual high standards. I will definately be returning again soon.
