The two of us(husband and I )stayed here for two nights recently. We saw the board advertising the hotel on the main road and followed our noses through small country lanes until we came across this gem!It really is a beautiful building(worth looking at their web site!)with loads of parking and easy access.
Our room was in the extension which has been done very well and is attached to the main building by a small 'conservatory' which doubles as a tiny library. The room itself was very comfortable with a large bed(could be a twin too),easy chairs, coffee tea making etc and doors to a patio area outside where there were numerous bird feeders attracting beautiful small birds which were lovely to watch. The bathroom was large with a roll top bath and hand held shower.....lovely to look at,but totally impractical....we were in danger of flooding the place out each morning as there wasn't a shower curtain either. It wasn't easy to get into or out of the bath as there were no handles available and as someone who had a hip replacement a while ago it was a bit awkward.A big shower until would have been more useful or both as the room was big enough.Having said that, there was tons of HOT water always available.

Breakfast was a treat......fruit,croissants,cereals and a huge cooked breakfast as well as eggs any way you wanted and kippers, smoked haddock etc....lovely!We didn't eat in the restaurant in the evenings as the menu wasn't what we wanted,so we ate in the oak pannelled bar which was lovely.....a good menu and value for money....including Whitby scampi, beef pie, fish and chips etc and a marvellous mushroom soup I had one evening!!(home made).

The staff were all very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. It was very clean and had a serene air about the place.....it was very quiet and a real treat to be so near the sea and yet out in the countryside.

We would ceratinly recommend a stay here and will go again should we be in that area.Compared with some of the places in Whitby we viewed before we found this one,it can't be beaten!

Room Tip: We had room 24 in the 'extension' so can't speak for the rooms in the main building....very comfortable.

We stayed at Dunsley Hall in August 2011 with our 16 week old twins. The hotel is located about 1 mile from Sandsend (nice beach) and about 15 mins from Whitby. It is in a lovely wild spot with lovely views. The hotel is a "proper" 3 star well deserving of that. The common parts are well furnished and cared for. The rooms are in keeping with the type of hotel, period appropriate rather than modern. The hotel boasts the best staff I have come across in many years of hotel staying (before the twins!). They could not have been more helpful for all of our stay. They arranged a perfect room for us with the twins which had a sofa and plently of floor space for kid stuff. Even better they arranged for us to have the a la carte menu brought up as room service instead of the bar menu (stiff looked good). The food is excellent and we were given each course in turn just like in the restaurent. I cannot reccommend it enough. As our first trip away together with the twins it made our stay just that much better. I heartily reccommend the hotel and its staff.

We got married at Dunsley Hall on 13th August and dont have a bad word to say about the hotel, the grounds are amazing and we have some amazing photo's of the day. The staff never stopped and were all helpful and polite. The food was fantastic and all served hot and in a good order. There was more then enough staff all day/night for our large number of wedding guests. We stayed in room 18 which is lovely with a great view, other family members stayed also and again thought the hotel was perfect.

A beautiful old building in a lovely location close to Sandsend and Whitby. Our rooms, both doubles, were clean and well furnished with ours (room 25) especially nice as it had patio doors enabling you to sit out in an attractive garden, complete with fountain.
Breakfast was nice and plentiful. Would stay here again.

We stayed at Dunsley for two nights and were very pleased when we arrived to find a magnificent old country house. The room was large and well appointed and very comfortable. Staff were welcoming and friendly. We eat in the main restaurant on the first evening which is when the issues started to appear. The prices were very expensive, which would have been OK if the food and the service were at the same level. Unfortunately, they were not. We had to pour our own wine, they did not give us the correct cutlery for our food and the food itself were just OK. When you are paying £27 for a steak you expect better. The 2 waitresses in the restaurant clearly had not been trained which left us feeling a little cheated on what could have been a very nice meal. Other than that the hotel was very good and I would recommend it to people but but advise them to eat out.
