Well, as an end of exams treat my partner and I, we decided to book a room for the evening as we had already been bought a voucher for the evening meal. At £160 an evening I can safely say that it was the most expensive and unsatisfying trip to a tip I ever made. As the beautiful exterior of the building lolls you into a misguided sense of grandeur, the first wave of disappointment hits when you are shown to a filthy outdated room complete with stained curtains and table with the damp peeling wallpaper to offset the feel of the room. The next treat comes when using the bathroom and the pipes being so loud you mistakenly assume a tank must have driven in there unspotted. The pathetic shower also went cold when my partner used the loo, a further sign of the bad plumbing all in all contributing to the worst value for money accommodation that I have ever stayed in. Finally, upon waking the next morning hoping breakfast could at least salvage some aspects of the trip I was bitterly disappointed. Every thing bar the black pudding was overcooked and dripping in grease to the point of inducing nausea. A complete and utter waste of money and time, a business concerned with the complete daylight robbery of its patrons with no redeeming features whatsoever. Do not bother.

We stayed at Dunsely Hall hotel for our honeymoon, and we couldn't have chosen a better place. We were upgraded to a four poster bed room which was beautiful. The staff were friendly and helpful, and couldn't do enough for us, including a surprise bottle of champagne and box of chocolates in our room on the first night. The food was outstanding - the restaurant advertises a fixed price three course meal but in reality it is much more than that - a very special dining experience! The canapes, amuse bouche, breads and sorbets in addition to three spectacular courses made for a very special evening. The location is perfect - tranquil but only a few minutes in to Whitby. Despite the rain we had a fantastic romantic getaway and we look forward to returning.

Room Tip: We stayed in room one which had a beautiful four poster bed and double aspect views out to the sea and to the gardens.

Booked into hotel short notice as fancied a little getaway with my partner.

We were thrilled as we arrived as from the exterior the hotel looks lovely. However inside it is nothing short of filthy!!

The room was small and drab and again dirty, could not bring myself to have a bath.

The food was poor and took forever to be served (30 min wait between main and desert!).

I really really would not recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Don't go!!!

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to review our hotel, I'm disappointed to hear you did not enjoy your stay with us.

I'm surprised to hear you thought our hotel was "filthy", we pride ourselves on a high level of cleanliness throughout. If there was an issue with your room recpetion would have had you moved to one you'd be happier with.

Our restaurant has been awarded a double rosette for it's food, if it wasn't to your taste all I can do is apologise. As for the wait for your dessert, we realise that when the restaurant is busy there may be a slightly longer wait than usual, all we can do is apologise and ask for your patience.

It may interest you to learn that we are under new management since your stay, I'd love to invite you back to see the changes made for yourself.

Kind Regards,
Dunsley Hall Hotel.

We stayed here for one night with three children and booked two interconnecting rooms. It was relatively expensive but included breakfast and looked a nice location. We had two adequately sized rooms with a large stone framed wooden door connecting them, the whole place is very authentic looking and the kids loved the little touches such as the suits of armour and the paintings. The rooms were a little dated but had clean bathrooms and very comfortable beds. Breakfast was nice but took forever and the portions were small (one sausage and two pieces of bacon along with a spoonful of beans, half a tomato and the thinnest slice of black pudding ever seen....) but it was tasty.

All in all we really enjoyed the stay, the location's great and the feel of the place is very relaxed. The staff were friendly enough and the grounds and the little putting area made a nice place for the kids to play outside.

Dunsley Hall is so welcoming and full of character. It is so clean the rooms are spacious and you can feel the history all around you.
We sat in the bar in the evening with a couple of drinks. We had a bowl of chips for a snack, they have to be the best chips I have ever tasted, chunky chips don't even come close these were huge. You have to try them
Grounds are well maintained and the whole expeirence was really enjoyable.

Well done Dunsley Hall staff
