“A short stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 July 2014

We stayed here for 2 nights & found the hotel quiet, not sure if this was because the hotel's position is more likely to appeal to an older age group. It is on the outskirts, accessed down a long lane in a hamlet with no pubs immediately around it so is unlikely to be chosen by younger visitors seeking entertainment.
It would have been more pleasing if the bar had more life in it, but pleasant none the less. I imagine in winter when the log fires are burning the atmosphere is more welcoming. The room was clean and comfortable, We ate in the bar as we prefered the menu here to the one provided in the restaurant; the food was very good, nicely presented but expensive.
The hotel has an old charm to it and the staff were polite and helpful..
The hotel is advertised as 3* and I think this is justified - the prices are more akin to a 4* so expectations are higher.

Stopped off here for afternoon coffee after spending a night away. The hall is absolutely gorgeous. The staff were very attentive and pleasant. We were shown to the visitors lounge which was all wood panelling and beautiful stained glass windows. We were brought a large cafetiere of coffee and plate of shortbread and we sat and relaxed. Would love to stay here as the bedrooms looked very olde worlde.

What a lovely hotel, charming.
Stayed to celebrate a family birthday over a long weekend. Made it a very special occasion as I stayed in one of the suites.
Room spacious and very comfortable.
Attention to cleanliness and comfort fabulous - fully recommended!!
Even luxury toiletries provided and replaced daily. Linen and towels spotless.
We dined at the hotel including evening meals, I found the menu rather disappointing ,poor choices and expensive. Saturday night menu the same as other nights!!! Disappointing considering the prices charged. Food presented well but vegetables very hard and tended to be undercooked!! No fresh fish on the menu, was surprised considering the location.
Breakfast was very good, a lovely selection of fruits and cereals, as well as the usual English breakfast.
Staff were all very helpful and friendly.
Service good - at all times.
Hotel recently taken over, but looked liked it needed a little tlc... Would love to return again soon.

Sunday-Wednesday stay. Very peasant hotel that is I believe under very recent new management. From the past reviews some people have had difficulties. It appears there is a genuine change in things, food was good, service excellant, room was comfortable and clean. Bed great. The hotel was very good but could be so much better with a small effort. It's surroundings were pleasant, good but with a little effort very good.
Don't misunderstand that the hotel was very pleasant and we were very happy to stay there, I would certainly happy to stay there again. We stayed in the wing room 19. We saw room 1, 4 poster looked great. Wifi patchy but so was phone . The wifi could be improved but you had to find your spot for a phone signal. Hair dryer and tv(limited free view) read and coffee.

I stayed in June 2014 with my partner and stayed in room 20. The hotel has a lovely grand feel to it. We had a very enjoyable evening meal and felt really welcomed by the staff. Really close to Sandsend and Whitby - we would definitely recommend.

I booked this hotel for our wedding anniversary, having spent the day in Whitby a few weeks before and decided that we wanted to see more of the area.

This is an old style English hotel but is no worse for it. The hotel is located down a narrow lane and is set in a small hamlet amidst the countryside, so it is really relaxed and quiet. The room we had was large, light and airy. The staff were excellent and friendly. All in all a great weekend and a good base from which to explore North Yorkshire.

close enough to Whitby but very secluded. Total country atmosphere surrounded by farmland and countryside. Dunsley is a beautiful old fashioned country house offering old fashioned values and service. High class in every respect from rooms to service, wonderful views and if you are looking for somewhere away from the penny arcades then this is ideal. Quality is not cheap but you certainly get what you pay for, and it is worth every penny.
Only one remark to note..the website shows a lovely tennis court, but it is a little out of date as it is now over run with weeds and has no net.
