“Not worth £3”
Reviewed 10 August 2012

We visited in June while doing the viking weekend up at the abbey....passed by on a whim and thought for £3 it would we worth a nosey......so I paid £6 for my fiancee and I to go in and left 5 mins later feeling utterly cheated. Ok so halfway round a man in a mask jumped out and actually made me scream as was unexpected and I was busy squinting trying to observe some of the stuff in there.....he did it a second time but this time I noticed it was just the guy from reception in a hoodie who had just pulled on a full-face dracula halloween mask....the 'no refunds' sign is a dead giveaway, it's there for a reason as others before me have said. I would feel cheated if i had paid 50p each to get in, an ice cream would have been a much better idea!!!!

“Waste of time and money”
Reviewed 7 August 2012

The outside promises all sorts of wonderful experiences, but the fact that it only costs three quid is the first clue. The second is that there is a sign saying 'No Refunds.' This is important. Because you will want one.
It is very dark, you shuffle along the corridors being 'frightened' but glorified Halloween decorations, listening to the frankly dull voice overs overlap as you make your way through the building. One poor actor pops up shaking the bars, and growling unconvincingly at the bored watchers.
There is no information on Stoker or the history of Dracula, or why Whitby was chosen. There is no memorabilia apart from Christopher Lee's cape at the beginning- this is the only good thing about the whole 'experience.'
At the end, you are unceremoniously booted out of the back door.
Even at a group discount, this wasn't worth it. I'm all for people making a living, but not by cheating customers out of their money. Pointless.

“Cover three quid in mustard and swallow them. It'll be more fun.”
Reviewed 6 August 2012

Christopher Lee's cape aside, there's much of the 1992 film about this one, and I'm guessing it hasn't seen an update - or a good dusting - in twenty years. A tedious shuffle through a 'historic' building, lights turned down either for atmosphere or, if we're being less generous, to slow visitors down. Probably the latter - even at the creeping pace we were moving along at, there wasn't a room in the place where three or four audio guides weren't overlapping each other. 'Guide' is a bit strong anyway; it's a ponderous voice intoning the plot of 'Dracula' in tones of Low Menace (TM) that wouldn't menace a hamster. A spring-loaded wax dummy or two (that's 'animatronics', I'm guessing), some poor soul in a rubber mask (the promised 'live actor') who's obviously not paid enough to talk, and you're out down the fire escape into the back streets of Whitby, wondering if you can have the last five minutes of your life back.

If it were part of something bigger it'd be a laugh, something for parents to cajole their kids into pretending to be scared of, but there's nothing else to it - no room of Stoker artifacts, no sense of connection between the story and the town outside, not even any decent souvenirs. Save your three quid and buy the book instead.

“Disappointing”
Reviewed 31 July 2012

Paid nearly £10 for a family ticket and we were out of the door within 5 minutes. Not suitable for young children either as a man jumps out at the end. Not educational, not enjoyable, not worth the money.

“Don`t bother”
Reviewed 14 July 2012

Nine pounds for a family ticket, a five minute stumble around a building in the pitch-black with an unintelligable story tape in the background, And then some twit in a mask jumping out at you at the end. You may as well go to a nightclub in Ormskirk. Use the money to buy some bait, a bucket and a crab-line from the little rock and souveineer shop a few doors down and take your children crabbing off the side of the harbour instead, mine were there for hours and it was their favourite part of our holiday.
