We popped here for dinner and a few beers whilst staying in Whitby, the views from the pub over the harbour are fantastic. We all had sea food platters and were very pleased with the food, very reasonably priced too. Would definitely return.

Ate here twice on our visit. Really excellent food, large portions, lovely view over the harbour. Definitely recommend. We had, the scampi, steak and ale pie and the gammon, egg & pineapple. All the meals were very tasty.
It’s tucked away in the corner on the road towards St Mary’s, keep an eye out if you’re visiting.

We really liked this cosy pub which is full of character. We managed to get a seat looking out at the harbour and enjoy our beers. It’s a great place to relax and chat to friendly people. We came here twice on our recent visit to Whitby. We didn’t eat this time but the fish pie and the fish and chips looked really good. We’ll be back again.

We visited the Duke of York four times this week and was pleased with the food and the ale... Apart from the last visit, which kind of took the edge off it. Service had been great on the previous three times and it is a busy pub, so people have to wait but yesterday (at 12.30) the main door was locked shut, the specials meals board hadn't been updated and the beer we were served was off, flat and slightly bitter tasting (it had been great the three days before). I mentioned it to two members staff who basically seemed unimpressed with my viewpoint, basically I was told it may be the barrel running out! So, feeling let down, we finished our meals, and left the pub (and our drinks) behind. When I worked in bars it was practice to replace drinks - especially un-drunk beer which weren't up to standard, perhaps this has changed?
We'll probably stick to evenings in future, we will definitely return as the previous three visits were 100% - the last one only 50% though :(

Popped in for a drink and ended up staying for a meal too. The ploughman's was excellent and the fish and chips was good too, could have done with being a bit hotter but still good. Reasonably priced with a fair selection of beers. It does tent to get very busy too which is always a good sign.
