We spent two nights at the Saxonville, having been impressed by many Tripadvisor reviews, and were not disappointed. We checked in at 3.30 pm, having driven through snow flurries on the North York Moors only to find that the wind was gale force in Whitby and the downpours torrential, so we were a little disappointed to find that there was no heating on in our room and that the gale was blowing through an open bathroom window. That said, a member of the very friendly staff soon rectified the situation. It seems however that the bedroom heating does not come into operation until 4.30 as a norm. Brr!
We were booked on a special 'deal'. Dinner (5 courses of excellent food) was well presented, by silver service, in a spacious dining room with Doulton tableware and crisp ,white tablecloths.Unusual in today's hotel world, it was not a 'serve yourself to starters' breakfast but staff were swift with your choices and the quality of the cooked food ingredients was excellent.
The rooms are spotlessly clean and comfortable.Granted, some of the furniture and fittings could do with an update but the interior 'style' is really very much in keeping with the era of the building.
All in all, several elements reminded me of seaside hotel stays with my parents back in the 1950's -- and it was a rather lovely reminder. Many more modern hotels could benefit from attention to these elements as incorporated in 'the Saxonville experience'.

stayed at this hotel for one night the hotel was clean and friendly staff also good off street parking it's a ten minute walk into whitby the hotel is a bit out dated ie room wise also bathroom dated with bath/shower but was clean carpets worn and dull also chairs in the room and in the lounge need to be upgraded the we did not have evening meal but we had breakfast the next morning which was silver service and the breakfast was very good and well presented thats one of the main reasons why people come back and why they can charge £110 a night a bit expencive for what it is we stayed in robin hoods bay for £76 a night and was far better and more value for money the silver service makes this hotel good clean hotel.

I had an excellent stay, no single supplement, airy large single room, the hotel was very clean throughout, the staff were welcoming and friendly. It had a homely feel without being too small. The dining room was very spacious with lots of room between tables with white linen tablecloths which added to the ambiance. The food was mouthwatering, with detail to presentation, lots of choice and courses so only needed a small snack at lunchtime. Overall the experience was better than expected, and although I have travelled widely, I would say it is one of the best hotels that I have stayed in, which is something as I have stayed in the best hotels in the world. I would have no hesitation in recommending it.

Room Tip: Sorry no swimming pool but my advise would be to book early

There is nothing to compalin about at this hotel. Whitby is a lovely and very interesting place for a break and coupled with a accomodation at this comfortable Saxonville seaside hotel will make a memorable stay. Hotel service, room quality, cleanliness, meals etc are all spot on. There is off street parking and to top it all off "free WiFi connection".

I stayed here as part of a group of 36, so we had the hotel to ourselves. They gave us an excellent deal for the group booking. The place is comfortable and the food is excellent. The menu is relatively small and that means that all the food produced is of a high quality and well presented. I would be happy to recommend the hotel and to stay again.
