We have just returned from 3 day stay at the Saxonville Hotel, Whitby. I booked via groupon and what a bargain it turned out to be.
The hotel is a marked as a AA 3star and it is everything you could ever want in a hotel.
The room (11) was very well decorated and extremely clean and whilst the view from the window may not of been the best it in no way deminished the overall experience.
The food both at breakfast and dinner was exceptional. The tables were laid out perfectly with superb silver cutlery.
All meals were served by the staff. None of this self service buffet style meals here. What a treat.
The staff were top notch. Very pleasant, polite, professional and nothing was too much trouble.
Loved the idea of having our own table throughout our stay.
All in all a very enjoyable stay and I would definitely recommend this hotel.
Thank you to all the staff at theSaxonville and I am sure we will visit again.

Well, as a seasoned traveller I booked this hotel via Groupon for a two night stay on the 16th and 17th of May, thinking ah well let's go for it. The hotel is actually four very large terraced houses knocked into one building, which, has been in the same family for at least 3 generations if not more. The hotel decor suits it's era and is immaculately clean, just immaculate! Can whoever does your repair/renewal/maintenance programme please give us some tips!!??? So much thought has gone into this hotel with first class materials being used in terms of wallpaper/ curtains etc. it is like being in a very well maintained and cherished home. Now.... Onto staff. Just lovely, warm welcoming and helpful. None of these abrupt I am better than you attitudes. Nothing was too much trouble and the young bar man on a break from University, and hopefully going on to do his MA, was again, helpful, charming and hospitable. Breakfast was in an immaculate dining room where you sat at your numbered table. Beautiful table linen with full placement settings. Great to see a tea pot, hot water jug, milk, and sugar all served in lovely silverware. Food was scrumptious. Stick with the full English if you haven't the stomach to debone and eat a full fresh kipper (eyes n'all). Although very tasty hubbs struggled with it. Staff in the restaurant were polite, helpful and VERY professional. Our lady, table 24 (with grey hair and very slim) was just sooooo appropriate, warm and welcoming. Thank you.
We are going to recommend this place to friends near and far. Please don't change, you and your staff are JUST what bloody good hotel trade is all about. Bravo!

I bought this break through Groupon, the Saxonville did not disappoint, from the friendly welcome, the spacious, bright, spotless twin room, handy parking, fabulous food to the great location close to Whitby's west cliff. It was nice to have the same table in the dining room throughout the stay, beautiful table settings with fine crockery & cutlery, attentive staff. I only drink cold water at breakfast which I requested on the first morning & I was surprised when a wine glass & jug of water appeared on our table each following morning. The dining room itself is pleasant, spacious & bright. The evening meal of 4 courses, coffee & a glass of wine for £18 was great value & to be recommended. We also had free wifi in our room although we'd been told it would just be available in the reception, lounge areas. Would love to return here.

Stayed for 3 nights, the hotel was welcoming, the bedroom and bathroom were spotless, the carpeting was fresh and free of stains.
Service was very friendly and efficient, nothing was any trouble to please a guest. no juggling with your cereals and juice as they were served to you at your table.
The cutlery and tableware were a reminder of the way restaurant tables used to be set.
Food was good with a good choice of main dishes.
Parking was adjacent in the hotel's own car park, on street parking was also available but with time restrictions.

First impressions were of a friendly informal hotel but without any frills. This was about what the place turned to be. The set up and furniture in the lounge area reminded me of a care home but the dining room was very nice. Our bedroom was small but clean with good décor but the bed had a coarse blanket for warmth rather than the more modern duvet we have found in most other hotels. Very small bathroom and the shower screen did not keep all the water in hence we had to mop the floor after every use. We had the table d'hote 4 course dinner costing £17 reduced from £27 as we were on Groupon. This was very basic food and far from being worth the £27 or even £17. Waitress service was excellent. We had a bottle of wine with the meal and expected to pay for this and the meal on departure. However we were presented with the bill for the meal in the lounge and then the porter came to us with the bill for the wine which we found rather embarrassing as no one else was given a bill.
