Excellent host's and atmosphere. Food was excellent and we were entertained in the bar by Peanuts the resident dog.

Had Sunday lunch yesterday at the Postgate inn Egton with wife Christine, Daughter Sarah, Sarahs partner Julian, & Grandson James, have to say this was the best sunday lunch we all have had in a long time, the Beef was beautifully cooked, the veg also ( not cooked to death like some we have had recently ) we arrived at 2.oopm so didn't expect the Yorkshire puddings to be up to much, but they were great, i had Banana fritters with a caramel sauce & ice cream for pudding delish! would definetly recommend

Funny how sometimes you never think of reviewing your own local restaurants. Indeed it was only this morning when tourists asked me about country pubs etc did I think of doing this review.. The Postgate at Egton Bridge is a wonderful example of Oldie Worldie English Pub Restaurant..
The full rather extensive menu is chalked on black boards daily as fresh produce arrives. to sit"with a pint" and look round the room and choose from the wall. From starters to mains all are there, also the house specials.and all at very fair prices.Even thought I live only nine miles away and near the British Champion Fish Restraunt I prefer the special way it is served here.Tourists love it here especially if they are lucky enough to be here when the" Stiffup Cup" is being served to the local hunt"in full regallia" also famous as it is the "other pub" used in the making of the "Heartbeat" series which was on ITV.But come and please dont forget your camera!

lovely pub in a lovely village, Tim Taylors Landlord beer (a little too cold for my taste), huge portions of good quality food but a little over-embellished (not sure the beef tornadoes needed the black pudding and definately didnt need the scallops), fillet steak superb, asparagus started perfectly cooked and tasted fresh from the ground from somewhere nearby. Not cheap - nearly £100 for dinner of 2 courses for 2 with a bottle of wine. Friendly bar staff.

We stumbled across the Postgate when driving around the North York moors, and a quick search online seemed to indicate that it came highly recommended even if it was a bit pricey.

Being a midweek lunchtime the place wasn't busy with just a handful of customers in the place. We were shown the abbreviated lunchtime blackboard menu - which was probably a good thing as you need plenty of time to read through all the evening blackboards (see photos). Our party settled on french bread sandwiches and a few drinks.

The landlord certainly was a character, big booming voice and had plenty of stories to tell, and the pub is very traditional. In the meantime we waited for our food, and it eventually came about 35mins after we ordered. There was no apparent reason for a delay that we could see, and nothing was said as to why it took so long. But when it did turn up it certainly was very good, with a good sized open sandwiches served with chips and salad garnish. We were also given a jug of water and glasses even though we hadn't asked for it which was a nice touch as it was a warm day.

If it hadn't been for the delay we would have scored this place a 5, but a very long wait when the pub was reasonably quiet took the shine off the service and it gets a 4.
