We were lucky to squeeze 5 of us in on a Friday evening with only half an hour's pre-booking - but we were lucky and got in, and it was well worth it. 2 starters between us, and 5 delicious main courses, one of which was vegan - a modified version of the nut roast to avoid dairy products. Non-vegans had grilled salmon, the usual version of the nut roast, or fish stew. All meals were excellent, with plenty of vegetables and potatoes available. My fish stew was exquisite: smoked, unsmoked fish and shellfish in a delicious creamy dill sauce. Wine was also very nice - we were all very pleased with the experience. Go there if you have the chance!

Great venue!
Great ale!
Beautiful area.
However the man, no gentleman, was very rude and obnoxious.
What makes it worse is he runs the place.
What a shame he focuses clearly on the regulars alone.
He looks very miserable and as it happens he is..!!

Have had mid-week lunches at the Wheatsheaf and they have always been first class, today we went for Sunday lunch, these meals often let a place down, but not here, there was a choice of three roasts and a wonderful nut loaf for veggies (of which I am one!) all served with two Yorkshire puddings and a selection of NINE vegetables! All cooked to perfection. I have no regrets recommending the Wheatsheaf to anyone.

On a short break to Whitby, we were looking for somewhere to have dinner. Passing the Wheatsheaf Inn at Egton, we called in to look at the menu . Impressed by the friendly and helpful staff we decided to return that evening. We weren't disappointed! After a pint of Black Sheep bitter we had the fillet steak home made gourmet burgers which frankly were to die for; probably the best burger I have ever tasted and served in a locally baked Ciabatta bun. Washed down with a bottle of Cote Du Rhone from the extensive wine list our meal was complete. We enjoyed our evening and plan to return when we next visit the Whitby area.
