“Whitby”

For anyone who visits this little fishing village you will be “hooked “
From the very first momment when you enter across the moors and look to your right , Whitby’s famous abbey stands out from the cloak of fog that often tries to hide this monumental building .
Steeped in history every little street and alleys could tell you a story about years gone by . The tales of smugglers , fishing folk and how they lived . The town itself hasn’t changed much in all that time , so you still get a sense of how it must of been ,a gas lit bygone era .
Captain Cook lived and set sail from Whitby’s harbour .
Louis Carroll stayed in Whitby , and told his stories to children on the beach .
Bram Stoker was inspired to put pen to paper there and write Dracula
Frank Suttcliffe a pioneer in photography lived and captured this bygone era of landscape and of the people that once lived in the streets and fished in the sea . You can still see his work today , sepia images proudly stand around the town and in the gallery in flowergate .
Frank Meddows a lifeboat captain who was saved one day because he wore a pioneering life jacket made from cork , 12 of his fellow crew drowned that day, or read how this crew dragged across the land in the snow the lifeboat for six miles to save the crew of a ship that struck the rocks.
Climb the 199 steps up to Saint Mary’s church that hangs now on the edge of the mighty cliff , ravaged by time, the wind , and the sea .
Then you will not fail to notice Whitby Abbey, walls that have crumbled , standing proud , still giving you the sense of its importance.
Whitby is a working town but you still manage to breathe in all that it still offers today .
You will not fail to be impressed by its sheer beauty , it’s breath taking views , and the people that live there today .
Once that Whitby has given you all it’s secrets , you will return year after year , it’s a magical place that puts a spell on the people that walks it’s streets .

“Perfect location, perfect Accomodation.”

The apartment is very close to all Whitby's attractions so you can forget using the car once settled in. The big benefit is that you can gofor a quick walk before breakfast or go back for lunch or the loo during he day. We parked about 100 metres down the road where the parking is unlimited provided you can get a space. The accommodation is clean, warm and fully equipped with views out to the harbour. The Endeavour pub is only a few doors away which was perfect for a few holiday beers and tasteful live music. We will be back!

“Ideal bolthole for a short stay”
Reviewed 10 December 2017 for a stay in November 2017

Small but cosy apartment in a great central location. Everything you need to enjoy a couple of days in Whitby. We were there in winter so needed to keep the dehumidifier turned on but it didn't detract from our stay
