We just recently stayed at the argyle for the weekend 20/21 sept, we couldnt recommend it highly enough. Bill and Mel were so welcoming we knew our stay was going to be an enjoyable one. Our room was the four poster , very comfortable , very clean and tidy with all facilities you need plus some extras like dvd player with choices of dvds for girls and boys !
Breakfasts were excellent, good range to choose from and cater for all tastes, we enjoyed our stay here and it enhanced our time in Whitby we will definitely be returning again.

Room Tip: book the four poster it may cost a bit more but does have a view of the sea and is certainly differe...

We arrived the Thursday before the bank holiday, after a lengthy journey to be met by the lovely Bill. He was so welcoming and helped us up the two flights to our rooms. We have two teens in our party and they had the room next to ours which had a double sofa bed and very large TV which the girls thought was great as it was much bigger than ours in our room ha ha. Our room was lovely, Very nicely done out and very clean. We even had a docking station (which the girls promptly claimed as theirs!). We went out straight away and enjoyed the sights of Whitby. That night we tried the beds and they were very comfy and we slept very well. Loads of tea, coffee and hot chocolate supplies. The following morning we went down for breakfast and had the "full english" but you didnt have to have that, there were loads of other options and you just signed a little slip in the evening letting Bill know what you wanted other than the full english and it was served to you the following morning. The breakfast let me tell you is HUGE. My hubby is a large 6ft 4 man who eats me out of house and home and he was more than happy with his helpings of bacon, sausage, 2 eggs, hash browns, mushrooms, beans and black pudding oh and not forgetting the unlimited toast and tea! we went out and on our return what a pleasant surprise to see our beds made, the tea and coffee supplies replenished, the bathroom cleaned and toilet rolls and spares provided, the room was totally cleaned and tidied up for us (even the girls room, remember i said they are TEENS, so you can imagine their delight when they could "see the floor" on their return from our day out!). All in all, we had a fabulous stay at The Argyle. Oh i forgot to mention from Rm 5/6 you get a sea view, lovely to wake up to. We were very lucky with the weather which always makes it better. I will definately be returning to stay at Bills, nothing is too much trouble.

Room Tip: room 5/6 family rooms with a sea view. Up two flights of stairs but worth it :)

From initial contact and booking to end of stay there was good and friendly communication. We were made to feel very welcome offered help with our cases. The fact that a vegetarian cooked breakfast was not seen as problematic but as normal as a 'full English' was refreshing! It was clean and comfortable, although for the taller people they may want to give the 4-poster bed a miss! It was walking distance to the town and its bars, restaurants and attractions. Yes parking wasn't ideal, but Whitby is what it is and parking would more than likely be the same in many places where there are guest houses and hotels etc. It certainly didn't spoil our stay.

Room Tip: Read the descriptions, check out the pictures and if in doubt ring and get you questions answered...

My fiancée and I stayed here for two nights, during spell of warm weather this July. Upon check-in we were greeted by Bill who showed us to our rooms and explained how the tv and other facilities worked etc.

Our room was located on the top floor of the guest house, the final staircase was a bit steep and winding for the less mobile. The room itself was reasonably large with the en-suite featuring quality fittings. We were advised by Bill not to open the windows too wide though due to seagulls and pigeons coming though – I guess a hazard of been near the seaside. The walls between our room and next door were a bit thin though, we were woken by other guests coming in in the early hours and watching TV, flushing their toilet etc.

Breakfast was served from 8:30 and consisted of cereals, juice and a cooked breakfast or similar if required. The breakfast was very good, our hosts had sourced decent quality ingredients.

The guest house is located in the Victoria area and is just a few minutes walk away from whalebone arch and Captain Cook statue. Parking is free on surrounding roads, it was initially difficult to find a space on a sunny Friday lunchtime– it was easier later in the afternoon though.

If we visit Whitby again we’d not hesitate to stay here once more.

Room Tip: Don't choose an attic room if less mobile.

How this B & B is four star rated I will never know! The room we stayed in desperately needs re-decorating and updating. The bathroom was, lets just say, not cleaned properly. The shower was pitiful. The noise from the other rooms was awful, so will not be recommending this guest house to anyone.

Stayed here for a night over the bank holiday weekend, took about 20 minutes of driving round and round before finding a parking spot,as it was so busy,(might be easier at other times).Room was compact, but comfortable, clean and well appointed, including the bathroom with some nice touches.Location good,in a nice area and, only about 5-10 min walk away from the main attractions of whitby, but far enough away for a good peaceful night.A decent breakfast in the morning, with plenty of options to fill you up.Nice, helpful and friendly people run this hotel, who obviously take pride in the job they do.Would stay here again.

We have just come back from a lovely stay with Bill and Mel at Argyle House and would really recommend it. We were travelling with a couple of friends from India and Bill was absolutely great with them. Bill made them feel very welcome and he ensured they would have enough to eat at breakfast which could have been an issue as one of our friends was a Vegan. Bill explained all the options and even provided some home made chilli sauce for them to try at breakfast the following day.

The rooms were lovely, we stayed in room 7 which was in the attic and it was huge. There was a full size tv, plenty of dvd's full size wardrobe, plenty of drawer space. Lovely biscuits, plenty of tea and coffee and the bed was really comfy. Full size bottles of soap, shower gel/shampoo rather than those horrid little bottles. There was a high standard of cleanliness throughout. Our friends stayed in a twin room and were very happy with it.

The ladies who served us at breakfast were really friendly and really made us all feel at home.
The breakfast was lovely and more than kept us going till after lunch. Our friends really enjoyed the breakfasts.

The dining room had some books and games to borrow and there were plenty of leaflets for ideas of things to do.

The B & B is only a small walk from a brilliant sea view and less than 10 minutes walk from the town centre. House is near a big church so very difficult to get lost.

Would really recommend staying here.
