“CHRISTMAS LUNCH”
Reviewed 27 December 2013

What a great 7 course meal served on Christmas Day.
Pleasant surroundings and good company.
Food well cooked and presented.
Staff could not have been better.
All our needs were catered for, even down to the personlised Christmas Card waiting for us.
Not the cheapest in Whitby but having seen others why settle for 2nd or 3rd best when for a little extra you can have 4/5 star .
Would recomend and go again.

Room Tip: Did not stay as we stayed at a self catering cottage and was a treat for Christmas Day.

Amazing place, peaceful, beautiful and historic. Dark wood beams winding staircases and an amazing restaurant with wonderful food, service and politeness. Would stay again any time, anytime anyone wanted to treat me. Pricey but worth every penny.

Room Tip: Rooms are amazing in the main hall and the annexe's

This fabulous hotel saved our almost ruined 6th wedding anniversary following an awful experience at another hotel/doss house on the seafront - we pitched up with no booking and were shown several rooms of differing standards (all lovely) and picked room 15 in the annexe with a fabulous four poster bed - I can honestly say I have never slept so well the bed was sooo comfortable. Breakfast was excellent with an adequate selection of cold items and a freshly cooked hot breakfast with excellent bacon sausages and black pudding - this set us up for a lovely days walking exploring whitby, goathland staithes and robin hoods bay. We returned cold and wet for a drink in the warm cosy bar - and a good soak in the HUGE bath in our room - we had a truly memorable stay and will definitely be back !!! This hotel offers genuine luxury at affordable prices it is within easy walking distance of town and is run by polite professionals loved it - if there were six stars available I would give them

We stayed here four years previous and loved it so much, we came back. We LOVE Whitby and booked into Bagdale Hall and stayed in the annexe, which we did last time. It was just as super as last time. We walked into town, which is a little run down and had a couple of glasses of wine at the "Duke of York" which was rocking and we had a ball, talking to the locals!! We loved every minute staying at Whitby but sadly had a shocking dinner - salmon fish cakes and my husband had Steak pie which was awful and a half witted waitress attended us!! Then breakfast the morning after in the lovely lounge was stunning, with different staff and chef. It was a wonderful professional breakfast. A great stay

We were lucky enough to get a cancellation for the Whitby Goth Weekend. We stayed in room 29 (the lodge) it was lovely and clean and even had a view of the Abbey but of course as everyone has mentioned the six rooms in the Hall are the more atmospheric.
The dining room was full of character and the food exceptional. The best Sirloin I've had in years.
Mostly though the staff have been the real highlight of this trip. They have been very thoughtful and nothing is too much trouble even when they have clearly been very busy.
We will be back...

We stayed for 2 days in this 'Annexe' of the main and ver much older Bagdale Hall. It's a couple of doors up the road from the main Hotel and is another very large old house, but Victorian. There's a small car park to the rear of the building and Stairs, no lifts.

Our room was on the first floor and faced the rear of the building. Large, clean and has a 4 poster bed (if you like that sort of thing, you'll enjoy this place). It summary, we slept like a log. We weren't bothered by noise at all.

Breakfast is in the main Hotel a couple of doors along. Good choice of cooked to order stuff and cereals and fruit/juices.

Try it. We liked it and will return.

Room Tip: The main road is at the front of the building. Some have showers, some baths, some both. Ask when...
