If you want a conveniently located historic hotel with character, serving generous delicious evening meals with, genuinely friendly and obliging staff and a clean warm and comfortable room at a very reasonable price Bagdale Hall will more than satisfy you. We stayed a week and thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this lovely old fashioned place. The staff were charming and made us feel welcome and valued. We would stay there again if we were to return to Whitby.

We stayed at bagdale hall and really enjoyed it. The rooms were wonderful ! the cleanliness was excellent and the room was very spacious. We had a meal in the restaurant and it was great the portions are huge and great value for money. The staff are really friendly and always on hand to help. the location of the hotel is great right in the centre of whitby. The hotel is good as a short distance to the centre so great if you cannot walk far and no hills. Overall i found this hotel brilliant and a great place to go for that special trip away.

My husband and I have stayed at this hotel many times and always stay in the Lodge. After getting our key from Reception we walked up the hill to the lodge and the first thing we noticed when we entered the room was the carpet was full of bits and long golden hairs. The curtain was hanging off the rail and we wondered if the room had actually been cleaned but we noticed the bed had been changed. The tea cups and saucers were still dirty and the 2 saucers were actually stuck togther with the spoon covered in tea!! The bathroom was really disgusting. The floor was diry with shoes marks, hairs on the floor and the toilet and handle very unclean!! The mirror looked like it hadn't been cleaned in days. We were so upset we called down to Reception who said they would send up the cleaner when she arrived later. We didn't want to unpack and have a shower or use the dirty bathroom so were unable to freshen up and change ready for a planned evening out. When we returned later in the evening we were expecting a significant improvement but all we could see that was different was the carpet had been hoovered. The bathroom was still very unclean. What I am most disappointed about is the same thing happened to us about a year ago in the Lodge and the Manageress said they'd had other compliants and were getting rid of the cleaners. She begged us to come back to see she'd kept her word and the cleanliness of the rooms would be much improved. We did go back and saw a big improvement but sadly it has slipped terribly again. Management should be spot checking these rooms as at £110 per night this isn't a cheap stay in Whitby!! My husband and I will not be going back to the Bagdale Hall but will go back to Whitby and hopefully stay somewhere that has better hygiene standards.

We decided to visit whitby on the day and phoned Bagdale Hall on the off chance they had a vacancy as i know where it is situated and has a car park. We got a room in the lodge with a lovely 4 poster bed which was very comfortable, the bathroom was great with a power shower the bedroom itself was a very good size.
The staff were great and the evening meal we had in the restraunt was delicious especially the beef pie it took me back to my childhood as mother used to make and they didn't hold back on the size of portions. Next morning breakfast was another treat, loads of options the english was extremely good without any pre-packed ingrediants.
We will be returning sometime.

Lovely last minute stay in the lodge. We phoned up on the off chance there was a room available. Luckily there was one left in the lodge. The price was more than we were wanting to pay. we asked if it would be available any cheaper. We were given a £15 discount without breakfast. This suited us as we are never keen on an early breakfast when we are away.
The room was very clean and tidy. It has everything we could have wanted. The shower was amazing!
The staff we met were very welcoming and extremely friendly and polite. The location is great with free parking provided.
We would definately return.

Stayed in Room 1, four poster bed, sitting area, small bathroom (grey towels), which fronts the building and unfortunately seemed to be a main road for late night parygoers who screeched and yelled a lot on their travels home. Beautiful historic building, but very dated and in need a little TLC, eg lumpy low chairs in dining room, with awful 80's floral curtains. The staff were extremely welcoming and helful, which made up for the disturbed sleep and if we were ever in Whitby again we would stay at Bagdale Hall but would request a room at the rear.

My Husband and I had decided to stay over night providing we could find a vacancy so late in the day on a bank holiday weekend. The young man at reception was most welcoming and we were booked and in our room within ten miniutes. The room was beautiful, four poster bed, desk, tv, en-suite and cost us £140 for the night. Cleanliness was seconed to none! Nice friendly hotel bar. We arrived a little late for breakfast on the sunday moning yet this was no problem for staff who were so attentive throughout. We will be booking for a weekend break again in september.
