We stayed for 6 nights in the suite (Room no 6) We had a bedroom overlooking the cricket pitch and upstairs a sitting room with views of the sea. There was both a shower and a bathroom plus a separate loo. A large TV upstairs with SKY and another smaller one in the bedroom. It was spotlessly clean and had comfortable chairs which is quite rare, we've found. It was so pleasant to be able to return and relax in our own space when we got tired.
We would recommend this hotel to anyone -the only minus for us were the stairs but then we are in our seventies!
We hope to return next year.
Congratulations to the owners for creating something really special

Stayed in room 4. Good sized room, very clean and comfortable. Large bathroom with good shower, often such a disappointment elsewhere. Sky sports and movies in room with decent size telly. Cracking sea view. Quiet location. Friendly hosts, honesty bar and a nice breakfast.

Room Tip: Room 4 is front-facing on 1st floor with large bathroom and sea view

We stayed for one night recently. We had a suite, the bedroom overlooked the back of the Hotel and the upstairs room overlooked the sea. There were two bathrooms. It is about a 15 minute walk to the town centre.
The Hotel is clean and our suite was well-equiped and very comfortable.
We think it is good value for money and we would recommend it.

We had a Lovely Sea / Harbour View from our room ,on the first floor number four . The room had a really decent Tv together with Sky ,you can also use the lounge downstairs ,which has a large fridge stocked up with wine and beer you can purchase from .The bathroom had a double shower that was fantastic with a large powerful waterfall pouring down .

The Wheeldale is an excellent small hotel situated on the North Promenade in Whitby. An unusual feature of this place is that the majority of the rooms are set up as suites i.e. you have a separate sitting room and a separate bathroom or shower room. The hotel has an excellent website which gives very clear details of the rooms which are all somewhat different. Although the building is early twentieth century the furnishings are modern and simple. We have stayed here twice in different rooms and the standard and size of the accommodation is terrific considering the very reasonable prices charged. For the same price you could be stuck in an ordinary b & b elsewhere in Whitby where you only have one room and the shower/WC is in a partitioned off corner of it.
The owners are genuinely friendly and helpful and the staff who help at breakfast make you feel as if they are related to you.
There is a very well appointed residents lounge with wonderful sea views, comfortable furniture, a good selection of local books and maps, tea, coffee, fruit, and an honesty bar (a fridge full of beer and wine). This seemed underused by other guests, perhaps because of the high quality of the rooms.
After this it seems unkind to say anything negative. Two things could be improved however: first, a better selection of tea and coffee in the bedrooms, mugs as well as cups, and half fat UHT as well as full fat, which everyone knows makes tea almost undrinkable; second, on this visit I thought the breakfasts, though plentiful and made with good quality ingredients, tended towards the greasy. I don't remember that on our previous visit - maybe someone different was doing the cooking this time. A better selection of fruit and other items for those who don't want a cooked breakfast would also have been nice. They did me a good poached egg on toast one morning though.
That last paragraph should be not put anyone off going to the Wheeldale. It is amazingly good value, run by pleasant people, and it has fantastic views of the sea.

Room Tip: The sea views at the front are worth paying slightly more for, but the views of the cricket field at the back are pleasant enough.
