Got back a couple of days ago from this hotel in which we had a two night stay. Hotel was very clean, staff were very friendly and helpful and seemed as nothing was too much trouble for them. Our room was lovely and spacious , and everything you needed in there, towels were left clean each morning and tea and coffee tray were replenished each morning with biscuits aswell. The room though was very hot, the radiator was a digital one and couldn't seem to pathom out how to turn it down and couldn't open the window, but this wasn't a problem, its better to be warm than cold. We had a bar meal in the hotel to which was lovely and the handcut chips were to die for, we also had a 3 course meal in the Vault restaurant which is down in the cellar which was included in our stay , this was a select menu and the food was lovely and well presented, well worth paying the extra for the quality.
There is no parking at the hotel but there is a pay and display which the reception staff do guide you too, it's £6 for 24 hours or £9 for 48 hours, you can also come and go as you please without having to pay for another parking ticket.
The hotel is a short walk into the town 10 minutes at the most and down a very steep hill or steps depending on which route you took, but well worth it to see the fishing boats and over the Goth side of the bridge to the quaint cobbled streets and different shops. A walk up the 199 steps to the old abbey and the cliff tops is a must and the scenery beautiful seeing the whole of the Whitby Town.
All in all a wonderful chilled break and will most definitely be paying another visit.

We stayed at the Resolution a couple of years ago in 2012 and it was ok, but no better. We returned on a Groupon Voucher in 2014 and paid £20 extra for an upgraded room. We stayed in Room 210. This has been recently refurbished and has an antique four poster bed and writing desk, a brown leather sofa and a 50" flatscreen tv. The linen is crisp, the throws and cushions tasteful and the carpet clean and neutral. The en suite is furnished with a classy Burlington suite with a 'made-for-two' corner bath - very nice!
With our voucher we also got a 3 course meal in the Vault Restaurant. This was just a bar last time we visited, but it markets itself now as a fine-dining establishment. We sampled the Asparagus and Scallop starters - both of which were truly excellent in both taste and presentation; for mains we had the lamb and chicken sous vide - again very nice. For dessert, we had the chocolate and cherry torte with horlicks ice cream - an unusual but effective combination; the blood orange brulee was very refreshing too. Service, despite the restaurant being full as we left, was excellent throughout - attentive but not rushed or overdone. I would highly recommend the restaurant. If you are more of a pub-grub eater, then the Main Deck Bar and Restaurant is also ok.
Breakfast used to be a buffet style, but now is a cereal/toast/tea/coffee buffet with staff to take your cooked order. Again this was tasty - above average quality bacon and sausage, nicely done mushrooms etc. and again very well presented. Maybe it lacked a bit of variety on the breakfast menu, but that is being picky. All-in-all a very nice stay and one we will repeat when we next stay over in Whitby.

Room Tip: Room 210 is a newly-refurbished four poster with a double aspect view of both the marina and whitby...

Just returned from a KGB deal (2 nights bed & breakfast + bottle wine) at the resolution hotel. I read reviews before I went and wasn't sure what to expect, well I needn't have worried at all because everything was just perfect. We were in room 309 which had splendid views of the sea, the abbey and the harbour, the room was lovely, freshly decorated, lovely bed, nice furniture, tea/coffee facilities, hair dryer, and an en suite which had plenty of hot water and nice fresh white towels . The hotel is situated up the hill above the promenade and away from all the noise, but handy to get down to. We were extremely lucky as the 3 days we were there it didn't rain, in fact we had 2 days of sunshine. The abbey has 199 steps to climb to get to it but well worth the effort, and do visit the unusual st Mary's church. Thankyou to all the very pleasant staff for making our stay so pleasant.

Our stay in the resolution hotel was fab . We booked our stay through groupon which was an added bonus. We stayed in one of their brand new rooms which was immaculate, we received our wine upon arrival and breakfast each morning was delicious. Well worth a try. Excellent hotel.

We had a 2 night stay at the hotel on a KGB voucher deal. The room we had had a sea view.It looked to be recently refurbished & although fairly small was very clean & very comfortable.A good solid bed with a good mattress. We ate on one night in the Vault.Thier basement fine didning restaurant. The whole experience of this was excellent. The food ,atmosphere & staff were superb.
The breakfasts in the main bar area were also vey good. This area had a lovely relaxed atmosphere & the staff were again very good.
The owner here is really trying to make every guest's experience a good one & in our case succeeded.
I would make on small suggestion to him ,though.Try to promoteThe Vault in other areas of the hotel ,maybe with a "rolling digital picture frame" of the Restaurant in reception.Until you actually get down there it's difficult to picture just how good it is.
While we were there Whitby had it's worse storms for decades & we still had a fantastic time.
