Thanks to all the staff at the George again. Had a great stay once more. Sorting out dates and will book again for next year. Weather was good, (don't know how you do that). Main thanks to Alison who puts up with us messing her about with who is and who isn't coming. Lovely smile and greeting when we arrive. Would advise this hotel if you are looking for a quiet weekend. Very lively but that is how we all like it. That's why we have been staying for over 20 years.

Room Tip: Ask for an outside room ... back or front. No view from either but you don't get the central ope...

For what it cost me £35 B&B I can't really complain. I had a room right at the top without ensuite but the bathroom was in close proximity.

My room (21) was spotlessly clean with two twin beds and recently decorated. A Flat Screen TV was present. The only minor gripe was the lack of a chair - just a stool to sit on.

The Continental Breakfast was ok - individual packeted kellogs cereals, fruit and diy toast and coffee. A cooked option was available at £5 extra which appeared quite substansive.

Free WIFI available and a private key carded entrance allows access and egress 24/7

Room Tip: I noticed on arrival the Hotel was not full and the blackboard outside showed the price plummeting a...

We were told you had trouble with the heating the previous day by staff,we waited for hours to get an engineer in to fix it..he arrived and it was The Manager, who had a wrench of a type and opened the valve on the radiator so we couldn't control it any way...still stand by our comments as other guest said there rooms were cold too as did my daughter who was staying too...awful place.....

Stayed here for one night! The building itself is a lovely victorian place with lots of character, however the pub downstairs is in need of a good clean and would benefit from a refurb. Karaoke night brought in the punters which was good, however the noise of it kept us awake til the early hours, then the rude awakening of the beer barrels being delivered at 6.30am made for a knackered stay indeed! Priced at £70 for a double room plus an extra £10.00 for 2 breakfasts. I thought we had been ripped off really. Wouldnt stay again even if it was for free!

Booked 2 nights stay from the18th - 20th August Regatta weekend. When we got there there had been a problem with our on-line booking. We only booked for a double, non-en suite but ended up with a 4 bed en-suite room for the same price. Staff really helpful. Room very clean, Super shower, OK music goes on til 2am but when you're there for a great weekend makes no difference. Next year going to be booking for 4 nights. Really looking forward to staying again. S. Jones.

Room Tip: Book 2nd floor up over.

On Booking we asked if the hotel was Family Friendly and were assured it was, We were sadly dissapointed,On Our check- in at 3.0pm on Sunday 12/08/12 we were greeted by a Semi Concious Drunken middle aged Pub Customer Collapsed outside. We didnt Recognise the Hotel as the External Facade Photo on the Website is NOT the George Hotel in Whitby.

Rooms seemed average but we were offered a Room with 4 single beds Not what we were led to
Believe .

we asked for the room on the website and were told, not available. Only after Check-in were
we told "No kids in Bar after 9" Family Friendly? in a Holiday Resort?

We asked for a Refund as we had Paid in full before Arrival, this was met with Resistance but
After some exchange of words, we eventually had a Partial Refund £60 was Retained.

We Shopped around to Try and find Alternative Accomodation, Each Time when we stated where we had been booked into, No one was surprised!

We found Nowhere so we had to come home.

If you are Looking for a place to Crash on a Stag weekend, the George in Whitby is Ideal

But NOT a Family.

Sadly this experience has SOURED Our Opinion of Whitby

Room Tip: Only a Stag Party Hotel in Our Opinion

We have just returned from a 4 night break to Whitby. We had a fabulous time, with glorious weather and met some lovely people, all to be let down by the accomodation. On arrival the receptionost was friendly enough and helpful. The room was far too small the bathroom was cramped and smelly. The breakfast was self service consisting of cereal, toast or fruit. A cooked breakfast cost £5 per person which on top of the room price for 4 nights costing £280 for a double room we thought was extortionate. As we were staying during the olympic games we had chosen to sit upstairs from the bar to watch the tv as had others. The barman (simon) walked up to the tv turned the sound right down and proceeded to blast us out with rock music. We all complained to which we were ignored and scoffed at. Then to top things off excrutiatingly loud, unbearable karaoke till 2am. No we wont be returning!

Room Tip: Stay elsewhere !
