“A welcome greeting as if you were family.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 August 2010

Located in an easily accessible location providing a parking space for each room. The entrance is warm and inviting perfectly matching the hosts Chris and Bruce Marot. We were a family of husband / spouse and twin girls at 15 years having two rooms. The one we had was lovely and spacious providing a seperate toilet and bathroom with shower. The girls had an equally functional room with a bathroom providing a toilet and bath. The rooms were very clean, had TV, hot drink making facilities, more storage than expected and plenty of mirrors. The breakfast and service was truly first class, offering plenty of choice within a lovely and airy dining room. A short walk and you are down in the hub of Whitby. We used the Passage to India, indian restaurant located near to the train station, which i would highly recommend.

We were a little worried about booking our stay at the Corra Lyn despite the good reviews. Our main concern was the lack of photographs on the web. We really shouldn't have worried, the hotel was comfortable and very clean. The room (number 3) was spacious with a double and a single bed, en-suite bathroom with shower and bath and wc. The hotel owners were welcoming and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. The cooked breakfast was second to none. The location was good, very close to all Whitby has to offer.

Although we have stayed in Whitby many, many times over the years at different hotels and with mixed feelings about the services on offer from many and issues with value for money, we followed the reviews on Trip Advisor for our stay this week as this hotel is rated as number ONE!

We realised that we had seen the hotel in passing at times before but not considered it before.
Oh how we wished we had seen it ten years ago...
On approaching, it is clear why this hotel is so popular...full of late Victorian charm with it's mock Tudor features, big bay windows and turretted roof.
The windows sparkle with that zing that only a well turned out household has and that only a good housekeeper knows the secret of!!
The welcoming blooms of the hanging baskets blowing gently in the breeze add to the charm of this delightful AA 4 Star rated establishment.
Plentiful parking at the front and an 'open door ' that welcomes you into a haven of comfort, kindness and exceptionally well presented accommodation.

Chris and Bruce, who have owned and run this lovely Hotel for 11 years are our hosts.
Instantly they set you at your ease, nothing is a problem and they offer all the comfort and hospitality that nowadays you would never ever ever find in any large hotel and certainly we have never experienced anything like this in Whitby.

Check-in is simple, straight up the sparkling and spotlessly beautiful original staircase to our room - Room 6 at the back and top of the Hotel.
This well sized room offers all the comfort of an old friend...Smart, yet homely decoration, an ultra comfortable bed and lots of nice little extras...Small fridge for your cold drinks or the Smoked Bacon and Kippers that you might buy to take home from Fortunes, Tea/Coffee making facilties, extra pillows and a lovely wool cellular blanket if you need it...tons of wardrobe space. great TV...telephone and a new en-suite bathroom with shower that has been cleaned with the same vigour as the rest of the house that simply sparkles. Not a speck of dust anywhere.

A great night's sleep follows after lots of sea air and a good walk...Oh and of course Fish and Chips from The Magpie on the Quayside.Bliss!

Our hosts are on hand to help all day and there are no problems with access or any other issues if they happen to have popped out.

Breakfast.....

The Dining Room is large and spacious on the ground floor with a wonderful collection of clocks and humourous touches like the napkin rings and the other little things that make this hotel so unique.Chris and Bruce have plenty of stories to tell and wondeful sense of humour!
They will gladly arrange the tables according to your needs if the party is greater than two people but generally the tables are laid out with plenty of space and room to eat in comfort.
Tables are laid with lovely damask cloths and pristine cutlery and crockery.High standards with subtle old fashioned touches that spell all the hallmarks of people who take pride in what they are doing and the people they are looking after.

This is a veritable feast that we could not recommend highly enough.
It comes in the Room Rate and is probably the best home and hand cooked breakfast we have ever had.The Full Breakfast is absoluely delicious, Eggs any style, great top quality sausages, bacon and Black Pud and the most delicious Fried Bread Men that we have ever seen and tasted.Mushrooms and Grilled Tomatoes done to perfection.
Kippers are delivered fresh to the kitchen (no Boil in the bag here!!) and are exceptionally cooked and the Cheese and Mushroom Omelette that I requested especially was the best I have ever tasted - Ever!
Cereals and delicious fresh fruit to start with including hand trimmed Strawberry, Apricots, melon and blueberry add a mouthwatering start to the meal.
Refreshing fruit juices and plentiful Tea/Coffee and lots of Hot Toast in plentiful amounts.
Old fashioned favourites like HP and Heinz sauces, Robertsons marmalades and Jams and fresh butter add to the high quality of this lovely start to the day.

This lovely place is first and foremost the Home of Chris and bruce and those they welcome into it are treated with all the respect and kindness of friends visiting their home.

We could not recommend this Hotel highly enough to anyone who wants top quality standards, comfort , great food and value for money with all the added charm of personality and respectfulness.

It runs rings around some of the other so called 'good' hotels in Whitby in all respects and as a couple who have tried some of these other places, do yourself a favour, visit the Corra Lyn and you'll find out what Hospitality is really all about.

You won't look back....Promise!

It really is the Number 1 Hotel in Whitby!!

We had room no. 5 an attic room - which is a lot smaller than other rooms Chris & Bruce have, but it was very nice, clean and cosy. We arrived early at about 10.30, but was told we could have our room straight away. Breakfast was first class and we would definately return again!

We arrived home yesterday from 2 days stay at the Corra Lyn after booking by recommendations on this site and we were not disappointed. The price is £32.00 p/p per night and I paid £10.00 deposit for the room by cheque and a couple of days later, I was sent a receipt and a booklet which included excellent directions. They offer off road parking too which was great!! We were welcomed by Chris, the owner and promptly shown to our room which was no 5 at the top of the house. It was lovely with lots of little extras like tissues and cotton wool balls on the dressing table as well as magazines, a clock radio, hairdryer, free view t.v and even a mini fridge!! Everywhere was spotless and tastefully furnished. The bathroom was lovely too, again with consideration for making us feel very comfortable like a bath pillow and there was even a laundry basket!! The bath was free standing in the middle of the room but as the ceiling is sloping you just had to mind your head when you got out lol.
We were asked what we wanted for breakfast and there was an excellent choice from the full monty to local kippers!!
We soon unpacked and Chris told us the different ways to get in to town and lots about things to do and good places to visit.
Whilst we were there, we went on the open topped bus which was great value at £4.00 for adults and £3.00 for kids. You can use it all day and get on and off where you liked. We got it from the Coop near the railway station which is where it starts, went all around Whitby and got off at the Abbey. The guide was very funny and extremely informative. We also played crazy golf which is on the West cliff, it was £1.80 for 1 round which I thought was good value for money. We got a few hours on the beach and my son built 50 sandcastles! He wasn't bothered about going on the donkey's but I overheard someone saying that it was £3.00 which I thought was a tad expensive given that the ride lasted around 5 minutes.
We had fish and chips from the Magpie but as I refuse to queue for a place in any restaurant, we got them to takeaway and ate them over the road on a wall which was fine except we got pestered by seagulls!!! They were a bit over the top price wise at nearly £6.00 each but the batter was good, and they weren't greasy like some establishments I've been to in the past.
We also had a few drink around town but liked the Pier Inn the best as you could sit outside, relax and best of all.. people watch!!
We also ate at the Board Inn and although the view was good, the meal was a bit disappointing.. I had Cajun chicken and it tasted like a Birdseye one!!!
The breakfasts at the Corra Lyn lived up to the reputation they have gained on here.. Bruce truly is a very good chef. He even uses a cutter for the fried bread to make it in to novelty shapes! Everything was perfectly cooked and the service was first class.
We left on Wednesday morning and one of the guests had pointed out that the rubber trim on the front of my car was hanging down a little.. Without asking Bruce produced some gaffer tape and promptly temporarily repaired it for my journey room.
I wouldn't hesitate in staying there again and would thoroughly recommend it to all my friends and family for their future visits to Whitby.

We stayed 3 nights - our first visit to Whtby. The Corra Lyn was first class quality and value, with the rooms most comfortable and with an excellent choice for breakfast which was well cooked and presented. Only a short down hill walk into the centre of Whitby, where you pass 2 restaurants facing each other that I would highly recommend - one Italian and the other called 'Dittos'. For another night we enjoyed one of the several high quality fish and chip restaurants.
We enjoyed the open top bus ride, and spent a good couple of hours around the Abbey and church. Not keen on Scarborough but Robin Hoods Bay was ver picturesque.

We and our friends have been staying at Corra Lynn for several years now and wouldnt contemplate staying anywhere else in Whitby. Chris and Bruce are a lovely couple and nothing is too much trouble for them and they are so friendly. The rooms are very well decorated and spotlessly clean, there is coffee/tea facilities along with a small fridge which is handy. The food is excellent, Bruce's full english is a great start to the day and not heavy on grease like a lot of breakfasts are, his cheese omlette is a joy. all in all you would have to look hard to find anywhere better in a B&B.
