We stayed in Endeavour Cottage No 8 - everything you could want for, plenty of room & so clean and comfortable. Shower is suited more to smaller people but was a gorgeous bathroom.
We stayed 3 days but could have stayed more.
Short walk to Whitby, close to amenities, staff are so welcoming and friendly, cannot fault anything.
We'lll definitely go back!

Room Tip: riverside cottages are accessible via a steep hill so won't be suitable for small children and d...

Just got back from a week here. Location is lovely and plenty of walks for the dog.

I have to say that the cleanliness of the property was appalling. We had thick dust on the bedside lampshades and under the bed but to top it all there was a plaster stuck to the underside of our duvet.

They really could do with investing in new mattresses as ours was very uncomfortable and you could feel the metal springs every time you moved.

The bathroom was covered in dust and looked like it hadn't been cleaned there was also hairs in the bath.

One of our sofas was broken not what you'd expect.

Also no wifi which nowadays most places have this as standard.

Also we were given a cottage with a balcony which bearing in mind we had dog with us I thought they might have had the common sense to give us one with a patio area.

Feel that these cottages could benefit with being bought up to date on an number of levels. New furniture, decorating and a good clean wouldn't go amiss.

Would certainly return to Whitby as there us a lot to offer but wouldn't stay at captain cooks haven again.

We have just returned from Captain Cooks Haven where we enjoyed a lovely peaceful stay, the cottage no 21 was beautifully cleaned and had everything we could need. The area outside had seats and a play area for children, it was lovely to sit by the river and watch the ducks and trains go by, we found a lovely fish and chip shop in Whitby called Mister Chips on Church street which has both take away and a restaurant which we used twice, the food was freshly cooked and reasonable, will be going back in the future!

Positives - Lovely location close to Whitby and with lovely views from the viaduct. Park grounds well maintained and the kids enjoyed the wildlife such as rabbits in the garden. Lovely quiet location but convenient for Whitby.
Private parking spot outside the cottage was good with a toddler and disabled grandad.
The playground was nice which the kids liked.
Nice pub The Bridge Inn in Ruswarp village by the river which served home cooked food.

Negatives......NO toilet roll on arrival after a long journey! First thing we had to do on our relaxing break is go shopping, then cleaning. The smell as we entered the cottage was like a fusty greasy spoon which we later discovered was from the oven that was covered in grease and stunk as soon as it was switched on.
The whole place was really dated and hadn't been cleaned properly, the sofas were very dusty and the bed linen smelt dirty.
The beds were so uncomfortable with springs sticking out that we had less sleep than when our baby was newborn. We ended up returning home absolutely shattered, not what a holiday is for!
The shower was pathetic and very old and there was a big mouldy stain on the bathroom floor and hairs in the bath.
The swimming pool looked murky water and the changing rooms smelt very damp and had so much water on the floor you had to paddle to get dry.
We were on the upper level at no 34 but we walked down to the river and the cottages on the bottom level looked so much nicer and better maintained, which other reviews have confirmed.

The family (Mum, Dad and 2 young boys) spent the first week of the Easter school holidays at Captain Cooks Haven, we stayed in No.16 down by the riverside and the location was beautiful, the boys took great delight in feeding the local wildlife most mornings and the accommodation itself was excellent, very clean and tidy, had everything you require to self cater comfortably and provides a good base for exploring the North Yorkshire moors, it's about a 10-15 minute walk into Whitby itself.

Captain Cooks Haven offered us an ideal retreat with two young children. Access to the pool on a daily basis with two outside play areas was ideal. The cottage (19) was well maintained, located on the lower section meant we could see the steam trains and enjoy a river stroll. Im surprised to read on other reviews that wifi was available as we had virtually no phone signal in the lower section. Perhaps that is something which could be incorporated park wide. Overall feelings after our visit would be to return as location wise its so handy for Whitby and going to Scarborough.
