“Lovely Breakfast Concept”
Reviewed 29 January 2012

After deciding to fight off the January blues with a quick trip to Whitby (one of our favourite places in the UK), we had a fab stay at Elford Guest House.
Elford Guest house is ideally situated for getting about Whitby and it's surrounding areas such as Sandsend and Robin Hoods Bay. For a late booking we got a lovely double room for £70 on a Saturday night with Ged the owner being very welcoming without being overly fussy.
One lovely concept of Elford Guest House is the continental breakfast which is left outside your door at 8.30am in a cute basket. Containing a boiled egg, warm fresh bread, jams, cheeses, cereals and juice there is enough to keep you going and the variety is excellent. It made a nice change to relax and breakfast in our room before heading out for the day. We would definitely return and recommend to others.

We went to Whitby with friends for a few days around New Year's Eve, and stayed in Elford Guest House. Everyone was really friendly, even when we asked for the wifi key at 11pm. The location was really handy, just a 5 minute walk to the waterside restaurants etc. The room was large and comfortable, and nicely decorated.

The breakfasts were a highlight, with real attention to detail. On New Year's day, we even got a bottle of Buck's Fizz!

Highly recommended, and if we are ever up in Whitby again, I will be staying here.

We stayed in Whitby for a couple of days to relax and recharge our batteries. The Elford Guest House did just that. It is not by the sea front but it is only 5 minutes walk away up a hill which was great for walking the fish and chips off. We stayed in the attic room which overlooked the Abbey. This was great to see each morning. We liked the idea of breakfast being delivered to our room and it was lovely and fresh, the rolls were still warm and on the last morning we got a nice warm hard boiled egg which was what we needed to start the day. The only thing I can say is being up in the attic it did seem to get a bit cold even with the heating on but we managed with that whilst we were there. The owners were great and on hand if we needed anything, the place was very quiet and just what we needed. The WIFI connection in the room was a but tempremental but hey we cant have everything!

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the Abbey

We went to Whitby for a friends 50th birthday and found Elford House from Trip Advisor. It was easy to book, we paid 50% deposit on booking, the owners were in touch in advance about check in times and to let us know about parking - there is 1 parking spot per room. On arrival we were shown to our double room by the friendly owner, which was in the loft space of this incredible house, with extraordinary views of the Old Fort. It was a lovely sized room, very clean and warm, with a huge comfy double bed, plenty of wardrobe and drawer space, an ensuite shower room, flat screen tv, radio and tea/coffee making facilities. In the morning a continental breakfast basket is delivered to the door at 8am. We werent sure about this, but actually when it arrived it's a great little feast with hot bread, boiled eggs, plenty of cereals, yoghurt, cheese, fruit juice. There was even a little breakfast bar by the window. It gave us lots of privacy and meant we weren't rushing to get down for breakfast. We could even watch a bit of morning telly. It was well positioned, both to find on arrival and was only a 7-8 minute walk in town (down hill) and probably 10 mins back (up hill). We loved Whitby and would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view over the sea or the old fort.

We had a wonderful short break in Whitby and stayed at this fantastic guest house. The room was a good size and seemed to have been very recently refurbished. It had a lovely view of the abbey. The location was within a ten minute walk from the harbour. The breakfast idea was great; a basket of food including cereals, fruit, warm bread and yoghurt was left at the door each morning. We would highly recommend this accomadation and look forward to staying again in the future!
