We have been visiting Sandsend for the past 5 years now and have called in this cafe at least once on each occasion.
Yes, its always been a little more pricey than its counterparts in Whitby, but Sandsend is generally more upmarket so it goes with the terrority. However I think it may have changed hands in the last 12 months as the menu is larger and more main stream than in previous years, which made the inflated prices less attrective. Over £8..00 for a breakfast when a great breakfast is available for £5.40 on the promenade at the Sandside Cafe with fab views of the sea.
On the Monday we decided to have a walk along the Cleveland Way towards Kettleness starting and ending in the car by this cafe. We descended from the cliff hot, thirsty and hungry to find the cafe closed! How disappointing - and we were not the only ones. It was a red hot day, Sandsend was busy and you guys are missing a trick. Everywhere we went on our holiday we were constantly being told how tough things are this year with the poor weather, recession etc etc but apparently not here. Well you missed out to Sandside Cafe who bother to open seven days a week and offer much more competitive prices. Shame!
