My wife and I have recently been to Whitby for a walking week, and decided to have a meal next door at the Board Inn, where we have experienced very good value meals in the past, but on entering the pub found the loud disco music not to our taste and went to The Duke of York instead.
What a mistake !!
I had a Burger, Chips, Peas and a side Salad. My wife had Fish Cakes, Salad and Granary Bread.
The Burger was dry, on a boring, dry, un-toasted white bun. The chips were the driest ever(in a town noted for it's Fish and Chips), and the peas were obviously out of a tin.
My wife's Fishcakes were large balls of mashed potato with very little fish.
Both meals were served on cold plates, the condiments were DIY in those small, messy sachets, and even the cutlery, which was the thinnest and sharpest (handles) we have ever used we had to fetch from a rack in the bar.
When you are next in Whitby, do yourself a favour, and eat at Wetherspoons in The Angel Hotel. Great value, excellent food and wine prices.
P.S. The Duke of York was also playing annoying disco music, but not as loud. Why can't they let you have a meal in peace?
