Got a double room for £61 and single room for £40 a night (no breakfast). I like the fact that this place is flexible with one night only booking during weekend period. It's a rare find in York during summer period, where most accommodations require 2-night booking over weekend. The price is also among the lowest we found in the internet.
The place is a bit out of town. We did not quite explore the surrounding, but there doesn't seem to be much in the way of public amenities. Saw buses passing quite frequently but I'd imagine it's not very convenient for visitors to York who don't drive. There's free parking in the university in weekends.
Franklin house is clean and has new looking lift installed for the first and second level (oddly the the brand new lift button panel shows 9 levels). Security looks good with guest card needed to enter the building and the room area. There is a living room with TV, sofa, fridge, microwave, washing machine, sink, cutleries and dishes. We ate our simple breakfast and takeaway dinner here, which was really convenient.
The room is also clean with simple furniture and a small flat screen TV monitor. There's even a hairdryer which is a nice surprise since I stayed in a student accommodation without one before. Bathroom is very small with shower area separated from toilet and sink by a think plastic curtain. You can't even put your clothing inside without risking it getting wet. No bathroom lock.
There was some noise from students in a dancing class in the nearby building at night, but it wasn't too bad and wasn't that late or long.
A minor complaint is that the reception wasn't there when we arrived. We spent a few minutes getting confused before some guy came over and gave us the room card.
All in all, a decent night stay with good price, but not recommended for those who don't drive or expecting a lot of comfort.
