“A most excellent caravan site”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 September 2013

We stayed at York Caravan Park for a week, returning 14th September. It was lovely, plenty of space, fully serviced pitches, very well maintained, clean, friendly and peaceful. The location is excellent. We could not fault the place. My husband fished the small lake, and yes, it could be difficult and is maybe in need of more fish and an aerator, but who doesn't like a challenge. The staff are welcoming and helpful, and as so many have said - the shower block is immaculate and something different from the norm. Anyone who moans about this site seriously needs to give up camping and caravanning. I saw one person write on here about the size of the shower block -- did she not check the roof and see the solar panals. I would recommend this to anyone.

we have just returned from a 2 night stay here and we were really impressed with all aspects of the site.the pitches are large and have so called hedges between them(they will be hedges when they grow).the site is kept really well and is really peacefull at night. We have been to lots of campsites boasting about having 5 star facilities but these toilets and showers really are the best we have ever seen, and were well heated.
good location,3 miles to york.
we will be going again.

Having read the previous reviews I sometimes wonder what folk want from a caravan site. For my wife and myself this site is 'almost' perfect. I have just returned from a 3 week stay stay at YCP and put forward our findings:
The Pitches - Range from large to massive, in fact at other sites they would fit 2 or 3 vans into the size of the some of the pitches at YCP. Caravan pitches are either hard standing or grass with tents being accommodated on a grass pitch. Most of the pitches have connections for water, grey water, electric (16 amps) and TV (Freeview). Each pitch is cleaned and the grass mowed as each pitch is vacated. Just note that you may require extra length leads for power, TV and waste. There is a main caravan dealer only a few minutes drive away.
Traffic - OK the site is near a main road but my wife and I did not find the noise disturbing. If your looking for a site with no traffic noise book a site that is miles from anywhere. The bus stop, right outside the site entrance, can take you to either Scarborough, Whitby or York (20 minutes). There is a Toby Inn and Cravery only a mile away.
The toilet block - Something to right home about. Each shower cubicle is large and contains an enclosed shower, toilet and sink. There is a separate shower unit and toilet for disabled visitors as well as separate toilets for ladies and gents. During the 3 weeks I used the facilities I found them very clean. There is also a washing/dryer and ironing room.
Fishing - This is not a chuck it in and catch a fish site. The pond, not really large enough to call a lake, does require some additional fish management. I'm please to say that, when I discussed this with the site owner they were very receptive and noted my comments regarding re-stocking and other general matters. During my stay, and approx' 15 days fishing, I only had one 'dry' day. Over all I had mixed bags of Roach, Rudd, Golden Orfe (4lb best),Tench (3lb best), Common Carp (6lb best), Ghost Carp, Chubb (3lb best) and Crucian Carp. Mainly caught on red maggot using either method or pole fishing. It is a difficult fishing venue and can cause frustration using more common methods.
Overall the site is worth the 5 star award it has been given. It is clean, has excellent individual pitches, top quality shower/toilet facilities and close to York. Only negative is, as stated earlier, the fishing does need to be improved.
An excellent site and we will be back - having travelled all the way from Aberdeen.

Stayed as a party of 4 ( 2 caravans) for 1 week. All though not positioned together we were very close by considering we booked this 10 days prior to holiday and this being a popular site. I was next to the entrance in one of three pitches to the right of the entrance gate. In a caravan we could hear the traffic whizz by along the main road, this did not bother us but imagine it would if you were in a tent, so bare this in mind. Our other caravan was in a massive pitch surrounded by a small hedge, very private as if it was your own garden! Amenities block: huge shower rooms ( ideal for families although children not allowed!) however no way of controlling the temperature, therefore had a bit trouble washing my hair as the water was too hot, some showers were hotter than others so pot luck really, other than that, very impressive, clean and tidy. Washing machine etc reasonably priced (£1=45min basic wash).
Overall a great stay, ideal for visiting York city centre and access to A64. A Sainsburys, Aldi, Asda within 3miles, and a Toby carvery within 2 miles (ideal for breakfast 9-11am £3.99). Would definitely return to this site and recommend to friends.

We stayed here for 3 nights, pitches were the largest we,ve ever experienced, loads of room for awning, car,BBQ,s.Shower rooms are massive and clean, apart from the odd daddy long leg and moths getting in(you are in the countryside). The only issue I had was that the fishing was very poor,I did,nt get a bite in two days fishing as did many other people,It's in desperate need of a restock,if your going to call it a fishing pond, and charge £5 a day it needs addressing. We found the staff very helpful and the buses ran on time from just outside the main gate.

We stayed at this site for 3 nights in a tent.

The pitches had plenty of room and we had our own electrical hook up.

The shower rooms were spacious and spotlessly clean every time we went in, as were the toilets even though the whole site was packed with tents and caravans the whole time we were there!

Behind the reception is a lake where people fished and caught and the ducks trotting through the campsite was a source of great amusement.

The staff were kind and informative and really helpful. Refreezing ice packs between 9 and 5, and allowing phone charging in the office!

We used the 843 coastliner to get around. We bought weekly tickets from the train station in York to the campsite for £14. This allows unlimited travel from any coastliner stop between those two points. A real bargain when it's £3 a return normally. We were able to then get on and off from the asda, coppergate, etc.

Really fantastic, will definitely stay again.
