“Great hotel”
Reviewed 23 September 2012

Very deserving of the 5* status, only complaint is paid for valet parking in a car park to find car was just parked at the front of the hotel on the street and then when it came to leaving the keys were handed over, the car wasn't brought to the door as it seemed to be for customers before us, and it had been reversed right up to the railings so we had to move the car to get in the boot. Breakfast and room were however exactly as described.

Dear Guest

Thank you for taking the time to write such a fantastic review following your recent stay with us.
I’m delighted you enjoyed your stay throughout.

Station Rise is in which the hotel is situated is a private road and the spaces in front of the hotel are rented from the council. Therefore, this 3rd party charge is regrettably passed on to our hotel guests. The Hotel is conveniently located a stones throw away from the station, walking distance to the city centre and a short bus / taxi ride to the race course. Perhaps on your next visit to York, a train could be an alternative mode of transport for you to utilise as car parking charges in any city centre are usually high.

I’m sorry that your car was not brought from the parking bay to directly outside the front of the hotel. Although only about 20 feet away, the standard should be consistent throughout and I will therefore pass on your comments to our Head Concierge and his team for future consideration. The spaces are a little tight as you would have seen which would have been why all vehicles are all parked in a little tightly. I can appreciate that this isn’t always ideal and again apologise for any inconvenience caused.

On behalf of myself and the rest of the team here at The Grand, we look forward to welcoming you back to us in the future.

Best Wishes
Graeme Clark

My husband and I are well travelled and like most people we have experienced "The Good The Bad and the Ugly" however what we have rarely experinced is the " Exceptional" and that is what we experienced at the Cedar Court Grand in York.
The Hotel may not have the most extensive facilities eg Golf course equestrian centre or a celeb chef etc however what they do have is exceptional staff delivering exceptional quality service consistently through out the hotel and it has made us look for an excuse to go back ( on this occasion we were at friends wedding in york so we took the oppertunity to try it out we only live 20mins but we will be back)
The Hotel is 5 star however it has none of the pretentiousness you would probably expect.
ON arrival wew were greeted in the most warm and frendly manner by the door man and We took advantage of the valet parking on arrival (£20 charge for your car being parked for you untill 12noon the following day worth every penny in York)
Check in warm friendly informative- we were shown to our rooms and luggage arrived within 5 mins
We made a lovely fresh ground coffee in our room whilst we unpacked our few items - then on to lunch

We took lunch in the loung areas which was excellent, decour is rich and opulent the staff warm friendly and very helpfull. lunch beautifully presented served with linen napkins crystal glasses and crisp chiiled white wine the presentation and taste of lunch was lovely and the portions were well beyond our expectation total £40 and worth every mouthfull

We left the hotel to go onto the wedding and returned late in the evening to another warm welcome
We had room Service breakfast " The Grand Hamper continental" @ £15 again it was excptional. Presented beautifully on a table trolly fresh flowers linen napkins and an assortment of food and local preserves our newspaper came in its own little bag and it was pure luxury to be laid in bed eating a fine feast.
Check out frendly efficient and no errors.
we walked to the spa to check it out for our return the young girl on the desk immediately welcomed us showed us around offered us brochures with the different packages and treatments on offer she was so lovely. The spa facilities looked inviting and we took the brochure for future
Our friends came to the hotel so I took them for a little tour I had taken my mum to the grand for afternoon tea for mothers day( again a lovely expereince and worth every penny) so I was showing the lounge we had tea the restaurant manager came over introduced himslef and offered us a tour round showing us the various rooms etc again so friendly nothing a problem.
On leaving the hotel we gave the concierge our luggage tickets and within mimutes our car was parked outside our luggage in the boot and off we went.
In all the areas we experienced at the Cedar Court Grand there wasnt an area of let down the deliverey of Service & standards were consistant making our expereince so more enjoyable and relaxed the only thing we had to ask for was a taxi to be booked everything else came as and when it was promised happy customers that tell others and return. You may pay a liitle more to stay hear but you do get a lot more in return. Top marks from us thank you.

Room Tip: we booked a last min standard room as we were going to be out most of the time at the wedding and be...

The hotel is really beautiful both inside and out. The pool is fab! The hotel is only 5 minutes if that from the station, 5 mins from the Minster and you can see the City Walls while you have breakfast. We booked a twin room, got a double and got upgraded to a beautiful twin room on the top floor. My only complaints, the choice at breakfast is slightly limited and the check-out is early at 11am. Late check-out is charged at £10 per hour.

Dear Guest

Thank you for taking the time to write this review following your recent stay with us.
I’m pleased you enjoyed most aspects of your stay, in particular our award winning Spa.
We regularly receive praise from our guests on the breakfast offering so I can only apologise that it did not meet your expectations.

Our Continental Breakfast buffet compromises of fresh local seasonal produce and to a very high standard.. We also offer a hearty cooked Yorkshire breakfast along with other hot a la carte items.

The standard check out time of 11am is actually very common in many UK hotels. However we appreciate that some guests wish to have this extended which is why we offer a late check - out service at the very reasonable price of £10 per hour.

On behalf of myself and the rest of the team here at The Grand, we look forward to welcoming you back to us in the future.

We went here for my husband's 50th birthday, and we were not disapointed. We had a fantastic Sunday lunch with nothing too much trouble for the staff in the dining room, perfect meal with a great view over the walls of York.
The room was fabulous, clean and spacious, although black out blinds and double glazing would have helped ( especially on Sunday night as there was a lot of late night drinkers about, and it was quite noisy)
Fantastic breakfasts and again first class staff attention in the dining room.
Cannot praise it highly enough, would recommend to anyone and everyone.
Well Done!

Just stayed here for one night recently. I arrived at 1pm after a long flight from Australia and a train trip from London. The check in staff were lovely and found me a room which was ready for occupation even though I was early for check in. The room was lovely and spacious with a nice sitting area, desk and a huge king bed. I used the indoor pool in the spa which is long enough to swim lengths in. Also went for a lovely run from the hotel along the river - stunning countryside. Breakfast was a buffet with the option to order a cooked meal. I stuck to the buffet as there was plenty of variety and the quality of the food was good. My only complaint was that the espresso coffee tasted bitter.
