“Brilliant stay”
Reviewed 2 March 2014

From the minute we arrived we were made to feel special.nothing was a problem for any of the staff and little extras like our bags being brought to the room followed by complementary coffee and hot chocolate made it extra special.the spa was lovely, the location great for the train station and the city centre.we didn't eat at the hotel but did have a lovely cocktail in the bar. Look forward to going back!

We stayed here for one night before departing by train the next day. The hotel staff were fabulous - allowing us to park our hire car out the front (to be collected later that day by Avis staff), looking after our luggage until we could check in, and taking care of a couple of minor issues at breakfast without any problems.

The room was very comfortable and quiet - the bed was great and the bathroom was a very generous size, great shower head and water pressure, with a separate toilet.

We were easily able to walk into town to visit the Minster - then caught a taxi back to the train museum and walked back to the hotel from there.

The pool and spa were also amazing - I would have loved to have a facial but just not enough time. I did however enjoy an hour in the spa at the end of the day....a luxury not to be missed! We enjoyed our day in York and would highly recommend the Cedar Grand as a great place to stay.

We have stayed at this hotel numerous times and recommended it numerous times and on our last stay we made it super special.

We booked a suite, booked couples spa treatments and booked a table in the restaurant so basically the hotel had all of us for our visit to York.

As ever the hotel is beautiful and the room was large and luxurious.

But what makes me really angry at the hotel is what happened on our return.

We spent on one night just under £1000 as it was our anniversary (this is a ridiculous amount of money to us and you'd think the hotel would love custome like this.) When we returned home we realised we'd left our phone charger and contacted the hotel who said they would kindly post it to us, which they did. What really annoyed me is that they went to the effort of raising an invoice and charging our credit card about £3 for the postage.....

We'd just spent £1000 in the place and they couldn't just give us £3??? Words fail me.
For this reason we will not return here as they do not appreciate repeat business.
They are greedy and have forgotten the finer points of customer service.

I hope the £3 was worth losing customers who have stayed with you year in year out.

Our third visit to this excellent hotel and it keeps going up in our estimation. The grandeur of the building and the quality of the fixtures and fittings impress each time, as do the rooms, our Classic Double room provided a spacious and luxurious setting.
The staff are friendly and efficient, they see to it that they know your name, and that personal touch does add that little extra to the whole experience.
We had breakfast on the last two occasions and found it to be very good, the food and service exactly what you would expect from the Cedar Grand.
We absolutely love York, and this hotel, our aim is to return with more family members later this year. We cannot imagine staying anywhere else.

Room Tip: Have has rooms on the ground and third floor, could not fault any of them for comfort and quiet.

We visited for my husbands birthday. It's a lively building and the rooms are beautiful. We had a classic room, which was excellent. Separate WC and bathroom which were huge, Molton Brown toiletries, fluffy towels etc
The bed was huge and very comfortable. The turn down service was a lovely surprise. We didn't use any of the facilities, but staff were very friendly.

Not the 5 star experience we'd looked forward to. We felt our stay was more of a 3 star experience. The bedding was shabby; the mattress protector was old with hairs embedded in it and the pillow protectors were stained. We were given a different room because of this but it wasn't much better. The concierge was off hand and appeared fed up. Dining room staff were friendly but the breakfast was dire; untoasted toast made with cheap bread and weak tea (go to Betty's Tea Room for breakfast; a 5 main walk away and much better). We left a day early because we felt we weren't getting value for money. There was a mistake with our bill; we were charged for valet parking which we didn't use and for an evening meal we didn't have. All in all a disappointing experience.

My wife and I stayed at the Cedar Court hotel for a mid week Christmas shopping break. The hotel is in a great location close to the train station and a short walk from the centre of the lovely city of York. The hotel is a grand building and the rooms are of a good standard. We were staying in a classic double; it was spacious and well equipped.

The only negative point was the check in procedure. When we arrived there were 3 guests ahead of us (one checking in, 2 checking out) and 2 staff at the 2 reception desks. The staff were very polite, however it took 25 minutes to check in which seemed excessive. However, I would still recommend the hotel.
