“The only place to stay in York!”
Reviewed 27 July 2014

Yes it's comparatively expensive but it's five star and having enjoyed a one night stay this week we've come to the conclusion it's the best (only) hotel to stay in while in York. Simply first class all round...loved it.

Dear Dave

Thank you for taking the time to review your trip to York and your stay with us at the Cedar Court Grand Hotel and Spa.

I have to agree we are the best place to stay in York, but I am baised, so its so much nicer to hear from someone who has stayed. We are Yorkshire's only 5 star hotel, and we hope to a deliver an experience that befits that.

I do hope that you are able to come and visit us again soon.

Kind Regards

Everything was outstanding. The hotel is a grand building and the rooms very generous in size. The staff were friendly and helpful, spa was a welcome haven, well laid out and clean. Dinner in the Brasserie was excellent and highly recommended. York Minster only a few minutes walk away. I could not fault it.

Room Tip: We had an executive double which was extremely comfortable. There are not many rooms with a view of...

Dear Alistair T

Thank you for taking the time to review your visit to the Cedar Court Grand Hotel and Spa.

I am pleased that we were able to provide you with a pleasant stay in our hotel when you visited York. I am equally delighted that you had such an enjoyable meal in our Hudsons restaurant, which has only been open for a number of months. We are lucky enough to have two restaurants, Hudsons and HQ, both of which provide a unique dining experience in the city.

I am delighted that the team were so friendly and helpful, as that is what makes us stand out as Yorkshires premier hotel.

Kind Regards

We arrived in York yesterday for the races and our whole experience at the hotel was outstanding from pulling up outside. There is a Spanish lady on reception I think she's called Desiree wow what a lovely lady very friendly &'helpful, nothing was too much trouble. The room was spotless & out of this world, a rare treat for us in a perfect paradise, so thank you very much!!

Dear JenMak

Thank you for posting a review on your visit to us for the race weekend.

I am delighted that Desiree was able to look after you so well, and we are so lucky to have her and so many other wonderful staff.

I am glad that your room was enjoyable and relaxing and equally delighted that despite the city and hotel being busy you were able to enjoy a bit of peace and quiet away from the madness of the race course.

Hopefully we will see you again soon.

Kind Regards

This is an excellent hotel. the staff are friendly, it is clean and has a wonderful spa. Its location in the city centre makes it an ideal base. many attractions e.g minister, castle and Shambles are within 10 minute walk.

Room Tip: make sure the shower mat is in the bottom of the bath, as there is a danger of slipping when getting...

When I arrived by train, I went to the taxi queue. They said, but Sir, it's only a two minute walk, just inside the City gate. Good rooms, terrace, spa a concierge who arranged a tour out to Fountains Abbey, a World Heritage site and also one of Capability Brown's best gardens at Harewood. Good restaurants such as Blue Tricycle doing Sous Vide!

Room Tip: They are all unique as it was an Edwardian office building but I liked courtyard view"

This hotel was possibly the best hotel I have stayed in in England. It is ideally located and is only 200 yards from the railway station, even less to the walls of ancient York. Two hundred yards to the shopping centre. The hotel has been sympathetically restored from being offices for the railways company into a genuine five star hotel. The room we stayed in was 221 on the second floor with view over the outside terrace. Some rooms faced directly on the ancient walls of York. Our bedroom was a little on the small side but we had an annex room that lead to a luxurious bathroom. The décor was excellent and rooms were adequately supplied with luxurious items such as bath robes, slippers and lots of high quality freebie products. The bed was very comfortable and the pillows and duvet were of good quality. The fridge was well-stocked but we did not use any of the contents due to time restraints. The hotel itself was very good but we found that the staff were excellent! We spoke with many of the staff and they were polite without being overbearing or subservient. All the time there was a continual smile on the faces of the staff. They were very helpful and made our stay special. This was very pleasing as I do believe that good staff make a good hotel. We had afternoon tea which was out-of-this-world and I would highly recommend. The breakfast was also very good. I would highly recommend this hotel which was the second best hotel we have stayed in after Cairo Hilton.

Dear YorkshireFellow

Thank you so much for very kind review of your stay with us at the Cedar Court Grand Hotel and Spa.

To be described as the best hotel you have visited in England, by someone as regular a contributer to TripAdvisor as yourself is quite simple fantastic.

We are rightly very proud of our historic city, the great work done in redeveloping it into a 5 star hotel without removing any of this history and the team of people we are so grateful to have who work here. They work so hard to deliver the best customer service in Yorkshire and depsite occasional hiccups I think we get it right the majority of the time.

We do hope that we are able to welcome you again some time soon.

Kind Regards

Exceptional time was had - long week traipsing around the country with variable hotels, this was an oasis of calm and quality. Rooms wonderfully spacious, staff faultlessly helpful and welcoming, the large terrace ideal on such a hot week, excellent breakfast, all in the heart of York. (The tiniest of comments, sitting out working in the terrace, the muzak is something I suspect many could do without, but I almost hate to mention it) Looking forward to a return visit!
