“Excellent stay for a wedding”
Reviewed 13 August 2014

The Cedar Court is a fantastic hotel with some of the friendliest staff I have met. We have a three week old baby and they were so loving and warm with him. The room was huge with cots, and baby accessories. The wedding itself was stunning and every detail had been covered by the staff. A special shout out to Carlos who took care of the groom for the day perfectly and the concierge guys who were very helpful.

The hotel has a great location in York. It is less than a 2 minute walk to the train station and only 10 minutes walk to all other locations in York. You can also hop on the walls across the street. We had a problem with the hot water in our room and maintanance was there in less than 10 minutes of us calling. He quickly fixed the problem. Concierge was very friendly and helpful to my kids on anything they needed. Kids also liked using the pool in the evening. We had dinner there one night and the food was very good. The rooms were vey large, even by American standards and the best part was how quiet the rooms were at night. I read that the windows were all double glazed because the hotel used to the headquarters for the Train company and they did not want to hear the noise from trams.

Dear L G

Thank you for taking the time to review your stay with us at the Hotel.

We are delighted that you enjoyed your trip to York and your stay with us at the Grand. We are very lucky to have such a historic building in such an ideal location in the city. Coupled with the renovation to the building that kept much of the architecture but also modernised us into a 5 star hotel, we provide the perfect back drop for a visit to the city.

It was pleasing to hear your children enjoyed the spa, and when there was an issue our Maintenence team were quickly on hand to help.

Hopefully you will be back to visit us again son.

Kind Regards

Ben Morcombe

Stayed here with my partner for one night, the suite was lovely and the staff made you feel very welcomed. The swimming pool is really peaceful and clean. The only thing that really needs looking at is the hallways and reception area as this could do with a lick of paint but couldn't fault anything else, would really recommend this hotel.

We booked at the Cedar Court for a weekend break, we chose it because of its 5 star rating and we weren't disappointed. From check in to check out (and an extra afternoon tea!!) the whole experience and quality was just excellent. We had a "standard" double which was both really spacious, had 1.5 bathrooms, fantastically quiet (we didn't hear a sound all night which is a first for us) and the most comfortable bed I've ever had in a hotel.

The Ruinart terrace as a lovely place to sit with a pre-dinner drink.

We ate in the Hudsons restaurant and on first reading the menu seemed a bit uninspiring but we're really glad we tried it as the food was just fantastic (we've suggested they try to make the menu be a bit more informative about each dish), compared to London the prices were great value. Every member of staff was friendly and seemed genuinely proud of the hotel. Breakfast was of a similarly high quality and the Restaurant Manager (Sabhi) was particularly good, helpful and knowledgable (and did a great job on getting us to try the afternoon tea which we also loved (Laura also served us in the afternoon and was lovely)).

Overall - fantastic, highly recommended and we'll be back.

Room Tip: We had a room overlooking the terrace, super quiet!

Hmmm mixed opinion, hotel is really nice, all foreign staff there are so polite and lovely, its a shame some of the english staff are not, all staff in the breakfast room are super and friendly, however, I was there for 4 nights and asked hotel if I could have vegetarian sausage for my breakfast... boy did that seem a big ask!! I was paying a real premium for my stay and after asking every single day, I finally was given them but only for only I breakfast out of 4!! the spa is nice but the swimming pool is rather odd when swimming, on the bottom of the pool is lots of grit.... yak, I mentioned to staff and was told that was normal, im pretty sure its not! There was one male member from front of house who was in the wrong job! never smiled when I spoke and I always said good morning to him and I felt ignored by him, wont mention his name but was in a senior position ... was a little disappointed from a 5 star hotel.

Dear mark p

Thank you for taking the time to review your visit to us at the Cedar Court Grand Hotel and Spa.

I am pleased to hear that you liked our hotel and that the staff were able to look after you. Please let me apologise that we struggled to get any vegeterian sausages till towards the end of your stay.

It was nice to know that the breakfast team were able to look after you so well, and despite the odd hiccup I do hope that you are able to return in the future.

Kind Regards

I just came back from Cedar court Grand hotel in York. Oh my word I felt like royalty. It was superb from start to finish. We stayed for 1 night and 2 days. We had an evening meal in the Hudson restaurant. This was in with a package deal so we didn't have to pay on the night and we could order exactly what we wanted off the main menu. It was amazing I have never eaten such a beautiful 4 course meal . Nothing is too much trouble for any staff from the maids to the reception staff to the waiters. Our room was massive and the bed was sooooo comfy. We also indulge in the fantastic free spa facilities . If I had to choose one gripe it would be that check in should be earlier than 3 pm maybe 1pm .

Dear p b

Thank you for taking the time to review your recent visit to us at the Cedar Court Grand Hotel and Spa.

We are so pleased to hear that you had such a wonderful experience during your stay with us, and I am so glad the team made you feel like royalty. It was equally as pleasing to hear that you had such a fantastic meal in our Hudsons restaurant and that you were able to enjoyable the spa facilities.

Unfortunatly the only way to move check in forward would be to move check out earlier, which we do not feel would be possible for our guests satisfaction.

We look forward to welcoming you again.

Kind Regards
