Description: A unique bar and restaurant set in the heart of the city amongst ancient picturesque streets. We have a great reputation for quality food and drink. During the day The Slug And Lettuce York is a family friendly hub for breakfasts, lunches and coffee. In the evening we transform into a vibrant cocktail bar and a great meeting place for those after-work drinks. We also have a beer garden ideal for relaxing afternoons.

Meeting friends for lunch at 12:15 with one friend on her actual lunch break from work and needed to be back within the hour.

We quicker all placed our orders to be told my our waitress that there was a longer than average wait. My friend who needed to return to work decided to opt out and just have a drink. The waitress did suggest a side order and that the children could have there meal first .

Anyway to cut a long story we ended up waiting 1 hour and 10 mins ( the 2 children with us got theirs within 20) for our meal and this was only after we had words with our waitress !!!
The very polite waitress was very sincere with her apologises about our wait and could see our frustration especially as the children had finished their meals and were getting restless (2 & 4 yrs) .

Once the food finally came it wasn't up to scratch very dry chicken, chips not great and not BBQ sauces on one dish we were too hungry to complain . The lovely waitress did however get us a 50% reduction .

We all felt very let down as this as normally been a great dinning spot!!

Don't go! My partner and I went for lunch here after a wonderful morning in York. It was an unfortunate choice. Service was slow, smiles were non-existent, the table was sticky, carafes of water were not offered and when the food came we had to wait for cutlery to appear. My partner's curry arrived with a skin on it - it had obviously been sitting for a while - and my prawn and roasted asparagus salad had 6 chewy out-of-the-freezer prawns and two (2!) spears of asparagus, one of which still had its woody end. Out of 10, I'd give it a two.

Popped in for drinks and a chill on Sunday lunch time. Friendly staff who were not too intrusive. Excellent choice if drinks from a well kept bar. Knowledgeable bar tender re choices of gins. Comfy clean seats although the seating on back wall under the mirror was torn. Rest rooms very clean.

If the staff have problems, they should leave them at home. Four mature adults visiting York looking for a leisurely, decent quality meal & drinks. The member of staff was impatient, couldn't smile and we never heard please or thank-you.
Food was of average quality at above average prices.
Wouldn't recommend, won't visit again.

We had lunch here yesterday, taking advantage of the 2 for 1 curry deal. On arrival, service was rather vague on where we could/should sit, but of no significance. Service was prompt and there was no fuss when the order was changed before being served. The food was good but nothing to write home about, having said that I've definitely had worse curries in bar chain restaurants.
