Greenside Guest House
Ranked #109 of 194 York B&B and Inns
Reviewed 27 September 2013

Had a pleasant one night stay at Greenside Guest house last Saturday. Unlike most places who insist on a 2 night stay at weekends, we were able to stay one night. This was ideal and after looking around York Uni and arriving at the guest house we were warmly greeted by Lynne the owner and given room 5 which is a family room with one double and a single bed.
We had a pleasant nights stay in an en-suite room which was very clean and had good facilities. We were served breakfast on Sunday morning by Lynne and her family, which was more than adequate. This is a nice, friendly guest house on a main road just 15 minutes slow walk into the city centre. We had free secure parking and were more than happy with our stay and would return again.

I stayed here with my partner and boyfriend. Although the decor is a little outdated the rooms were clean and comfy.
The breakfast was OK but no choice apart from a fried breakfast or fruit would have liked a couple of different options.
The location is great with the centre of York being only a 10/15 minute walk down a safe busy road.
Dont try and get food for dinner near the B&B however as there isnt really much choice and the pub opposite isnt great for anything other than larger.

I arrived at this B and B by error as the hotel I has booked into was trying to charge me a late fee for arriving late and for breakfast which they said was included. Anyway on arrival we were warmly welcomed by a lady who made us very settled indeed and was quick in getting our car put into a private car park and our cases to our room. She then asked us about breakfast making sure we were catered for the following morning and advising us of local places to go that night for Tea.
The beds were comfortable and the furniture complemented the room significantly.
The following morning we were given a breakfast fit for a king which was lovely and when we left after talking to the owner the reception we received was like we were regulars of the B and B which was lovely. It was like a home from home experience. Thank you for a lovely stay.

This was the last of more than half a dozen B&Bs we stayed at in the UK during our trip. The place made us feel we may have possibly fallen into some sort of "Life on Mars" experience. It was definitely a 70s throwback right down to the carpet and old TV. We lived in the UK in the late 80s and it was like the B&Bs we stayed in then. That said it was not an unpleasant experience. The hostess was friendly and helpful, it was a 15-minute stroll (either along the road or more scenically along the river) to the old walled town and the rooms clean and quiet....
