Came to York for my birthday weekend and this pub was right near our B and B and the Minster and in a beautiful street located with lots of other pubs and restaurants, so decided to pop in to see if we could get a bite to eat when we arrived in York after 8pm on a Friday evening.
It was really busy so we could tell it must be very popular. We decided to sit down near the bar and wait for a table to become free. The pub is bigger than you think with another part to it at the back of the bar with more seats and the toilets upstairs.
We managed to find a table and decided to have two courses each with drinks. I was quite taken with the selection off the specials board. The food was excellent and food and drinks are reasonably priced. We both liked it so much we moved to sit at the front of the pub after our meals and stayed till closing time.
The staff are really friendly and very welcoming and the pub is lovely and cosy with a real fire that makes it all the more warmer atmosphere.
We even went back for a couple of drinks the next day on the Saturday evening which was nice.
We are going back to York inbetween Christmas and New Year and will definately go back.
