“Absolutely fantastic hostel in a great location.”
Reviewed 24 June 2014

The best hostel I've ever stayed. I felt like that's more like hotel. But sadly I have to give 4star as for checking out I couldn't get the deposit money back yet. The check out time is opening from 8~10am I think? But I had to rush out around 6ish am for the train to other city. So the lady from down stair(there's a good bar&restaurant you can chill) got the key back but she couldnt give me the moeny as she no longer the hostel I guess? So I wrote the bank details but put a wrong one so sent an email to the hostel to let them know the correct one around 7days ago but still didn't get in a touch from them. So so far the staying and the facility was absoulutely beautiful but checking out is really not great so far(compare to other hostels system)

Thank you so much, sounds like you really enjoyed your stay with us. Sorry there seems to have been a bit of a problem with your deposit as this is normally a very straight forward process. If you want to give us a call I'm sure we will be able to sort this out for you.

However,100% I will go again,,,,I was in " the log cabin" sharing with 3 youngsters,,they were great,,,as also were the staff,,and the facilities provided were excellent.
A beautiful white bath towel was provided, and snowy white pillows and duvet,
Tea ,coffee, juice, ect were provided.....microwaves and toasters in two kitchens, and the wet rooms/toilet and basins, were pristine, with soap and hair dryers to boot,I could not reccommend the FORT enough,,,top notch,,10 out of 10 ...

So pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and really happy that all your worries were unwarranted. I can remember talking to you at check out and you seemed like you had a lovely time with us and the other guests. Please come and visit us again sometime and hopefully you will get to enjoy the bits of our beautiful city that you never got to see while you were working.

Considering this is marketed as a hostel we were very impressed by the space and cleanliness of the room. Free tea/coffee/juices as well as milk provided in the fridge, the kitchen also having full oven, microwave and dishwasher.

We only stayed for one night, there were 6 of us and all in the same 'dorm'. We each had a cycle and the staff were happy for us to take these up to the room where they were secure. There was a main living room with sofa/ TV and dining table and room to store the six bikes. Kitchen, toilet and separate shower with plenty of private dressing space. One bedroom with 3 sets of bunks.

You check in to the hotel at the pub/restaurant next door, the staff there being very friendly and helpful - could not fault the service at all.

Only one downside, the mattresses were soft and springy, this coupled with street noise led to some poor sleep, not ideal given everyone was up at am to start a 120 mile charity bike ride! Little did we know but the hostel had also provided ear plugs, albeit not discovered until the next morning!

Would stay again, definitely.

Room Tip: it's a hostel, you get what you pay for, but there was a lot of 'street' noise effecting...

We loved our room and ensuite bathroom. The facilities are among the best that we have seen, the cleaning standard was superb and staff helpful and friendly. We did find the noise from the downstairs bar made sleeping difficult but the excellent location of The Fort made up for it.

Room Tip: Our double room and ensuite bathroom were fantastic, we loved the décor and location of the room at...

I really enjoyed staying at the fort. The property is well appointed and very clean. Good value for money. Very "luxurious". The ladies downstairs in Kennedy's were extremely friendly and helpful. I had such a great time in york. I'll have to visit again one day (didn't have enough time in york!)

It's great if your only purpose there is to frequent the pubs and bars, get drunk and wasted.
The place was hosting big "hen parties" with lots of rowdy, chattering girls occupying (and messing up) the toilets and kitchen. The drunks were sleeping in the kitchen, or doubled up in the dorm beds since there were no security nor reception/attendant on duty at all (as only the people in the bar does all the check-ins and nothing else) and so many people sneaked in their new found bed mates at night.
Also at night the bar below plays really loud music till late. Ear plugs wouldn't help as you'll feel the vibrations and thuds. And the windows are screwed to remain open. Either ways it wouldn't matters.
And on the weekend they raise the rates to extremely high levels because of those partying crowds booking up the rooms. I also discovered that I was given a higher rate room even though they have cheaper options. Not very considerate for longer staying / returning guests.
Not to forget the amount of stairs up, down, in, out, etc you'll need to climb!

I really liked my stay. Compared to a lot of hostels I have seen, it was very clean and the intallations were practical and well thought. The kitchen was nice and functionnal. The only down side is that it was very noisy in the bar downstairs, even with earplugs. The windows don't reduce much the sound outside.

Thank you very much for the review, really nice to hear that you liked The Fort and all the amenities that were on offer to you. It does get quite noisy on a night as we are bang smack in the middle of the city centre, sorry the ear plugs didn't help you on this occasion as they are normally enough. Hope you visit us again soon.
