“GREAT!”
Reviewed 11 July 2014

For a hostel with 8 bunk beds to a room this was a great choice. The bunk beds each had individual outlets and a light for convenience and were totally enclosed to give you a sense of privacy. The common room was clean and spacious with a great kitchen with all the necessary tools to make a meal for yourself if you wanted. One of the best parts was the bathrooms! individual stalls with a toilet sink and shower meant complete privacy and they were very tidy. Best of all you are a 5 min walk to York Minster and all the main attractions in the city.

Highly recommend to anyone staying in York looking for a budget friendly place to stay.

The only thing (which didn't bother me at all) was this hostel is directly above a nightclub and you can hear the revelers at night. But because the bunk beds were totally enclosed it helped with the noise and they even provided ear plugs!

Not anything like i expected, the nicest hostel ive been to, all bedding and towels provided.

The rooms and bathroom were clean and the kitchen is top standard!! The only downside is the music from the club, but this finishes at 12 so if you go out for the evening its not to bad.

All tea, coffee and squash provided was a nice touch!

Would definatly go back!!

Thank you for your kind words, I must admit Kennedys breakfast really does do the job after a night out.
Look forward to seeing you again when you return.

We had a group of 5 staying in the 'Log Cabin' room (3 sets of bunk beds) on a Friday and Saturday night. Really good value - worked out at £36 per head, per night - and would have been even cheaper if we hadn't lost our sixth member. The location is right in the middle of things and you can easily walk from the station if arriving by train. They have no parking at The Fort and long stay parking in York isn't cheap (e.g. the Castle car park would cost you £35 for 24 hours). Note the much promoted Park & Ride sites close at 8.30pm.

We were on a weekend away so weren't fazed by Kennedy's being open until 2am, but this is not the place for a weekend stay if you like early nights and peace & quiet.

Decor is quite funky and the room was clean and everything we wanted - i.e. only to sleep off the beer.

We were greeted by the friendly manageress on Sunday morning over breakfast in Kennedy's and she encouraged us to write a review, so here it is. (The young barman and waitress could work on the warmth of their service though - or maybe this was simply traditional Yorkshire brusqueness)

Pleased you enjoyed your stay, if you decided to come again in the future and drive its worth parking at the Railway Station which is a ten minute walk and costs about £7.50 for 24 hrs or the Shambles long stay is around £13

The Fort is by far the best hostel I have stayed at, even if the beds that weren't the most comfortable. It is very clean and modern. There is a shower in each room with other showers elsewhere in case someone is using the one in your room. You don't have to pay for a towel which is also good! The kitchens are great with free coffee/hot chocolate/tea and milk and its a great place to just chill out after a long day of sightseeing. There's even beauty stations with air dryers for girls which I have never seen elsewhere! The only thing is the Wi-Fi didn't work well in my room but you can just go to the common areas for that and it works perfect. Also the staff is awesome and the location is perfect!

Highly recommend a stay here! A fantastic hostel in a perfect location, right in the centre of York. Rooms were a little noisy at night as the hostel is above a bar with an outside area, but this didn't affect us too much (and we were staying on a Friday and Saturday night so this was to be expected). Rooms are very modern and stylish, decent size and very clean. We had a private room with our own en-suite. They also have a kitchen and social area which is great for backpackers/travellers. Thanks for a fantastic stay!

We stayed in a 6 bedded room with ensuite, lounge and kitchen. It was like having your own flat in the middle of the old town. Couldn't have been better. Och, if I was being picky, I suppose that space to park our bikes safely would have been nice too.

Great to hear you enjoyed your stay with us. I personally love the Room/apartment that you stayed in too, as you said its more like a home away from home than a hostel and what a location too :)
